« on: April 22, 2012, 03:46:41 PM »
I finally got around to sending the camera down the bore of the Winchester 1873 I pick up on Friday. Someone needs a good talking to about bore maintenance!!!

Just inside the muzzle:

6" from Muzzle:

12" from Muzzle:

18" from Muzzle: (this is where the barrel was "ringed")

Beginning of chamber (Throat):

Neck Area:

Chamber:

I'll post up some pictures of a good barrel so you can compare.

These pictures were taken with a $34 bore scope a few of us gun nuts bought on Ebay from Hong Kong. For the $$, it works pretty good....

For comparison:

Here is a brand new (150 rounds) 1886 Winchester 45-70, no Black Powder and not cleaned after last 50 rounds fired:

And Here is a 1871 Pedersoli Remington Rolling Block in 45-70 (Manufactured in 1971) Lots of Black Powder, over 600 rounds, cleaned religiously after each outing.

This is getting near the throat.....

Hey Pard,

Congrats on your find and I think the scope pix are really cool!

I there any chance that this ol' bore is just leaded up?  Looks like I can see the lans & groves filled up levelish with a bunch of graw-doo-scunge on top?
