I have a 5 1/2 USFA prewar in 44wcf of course . I also have a Taylor's 4 3/4 Smoke wagon . These are a couple of choices I enjoy carrying , and shooting . I have a 7 1/2 ordered with the charcoal bluing and a German Silver front sight . Can't wait to get it .

Either my Cimarron/Uberti model P with the BP frame with 7 1/2 inch barrel, or my 1905 made Colt new service with 5 1/2 inch barrel. Both are chambered in .44-40.

Who did you order the silver front sight option through?

I ordered the Silver front sight through 3 B shooting supplies . Which means it will be a Cimarron custom order .

Rowdy,
I shoot the Uberti's. I have 2 Cattlemen 4.75" think they are called "Gunfighter" models. They are in the Old Model Frame (BP); 2 Smoke Wagons Artillery 5.5" Deluxe models and Two Hawg Leggs 7.5". One of the Hawg Leggs is a Cattleman and the other is a Cimarron Custer Model both 7.5" are in Old Model frames (BP). The Smoke Wagon's are my favorite. The Hawg Leggs I love, but they are slow on the draw...laughing. All are in 45LC. Am trying to muster the nerve of shooting "Gunfighter" at the stages with the hawg leggs, that appears to be a hoot.

Well Rowdy I don't really have 'a' favorite. Some days I use my two Colt 44 caliber Peacemaker Centennials, other days I use my pair of third gen 4 3/4" black powder frame 44-40s, and other days my USFA 7 1/2" black powder frame SAAs. Kinda depends on how I'm feeling on that given day.

I have three '73s and each is matched to a pair of 4 3/4" ER revolvers, one complete set each in 357, 44-40 and .45. I actually use the 45s most often for SASS but, for whatever reason, call the 44-40s my favorites?? The 357s are used strictly for the odd occasions on which I feel a real need to see targets for some odd reason and shoot smokeless. Mind games, to explain an addiction, I guess.

I shoot .45 Schofield rounds in a pair of 1873 SAA's. One is a USFA and the other is a GW II by Pietta, both with 5-1/2" barrels. In my 1873 I shoot .45 Colt.

3.75" .45 Vaquero. Works well in close after the '73's run dry.

I use a pair of .45 Colt Dakotas, SAA Clones. One is an old EMF/Jaeger I got in 1988, the other is a GW2 I purchased in 2008. Both have 7.5 inch barrels and 1860 sized Grip Frames and outfitted with True Ivory Grips. These are the primary revolvers I use with my 1873 .44/40 (WCF) Short Rifle.
I use Black Powder in all of them with Big Lube Boolits* and am very happy with that combination.

I have several 1st Gen Colts, but my favorite shooter/carry gun is a UAFA 4 3/4" .44WCF. When I was 12 years old, (I'm now 62) my folks bought me my first Colt SA for Christmas. It was an 1878 vintage .44WCF that came out of Mexico. The original 7 1/2" barrel had been cut many years earlier to 4 3/4". I shot that gun until it was no longer servicable. I've been fortunate enough to have had serveral since then, but found that the USAF gun served my "carry" purpous perfectly. It still had the old feel of an orignial 1st Gen Colt, but it is also a pistol I can use without concern about wear and tear, like I would an expensive original. I also have the same gun in a .38WCF and love it just as much as a good shooter.

Ruger OMV's, one 7-1/2" and one 5-1/2" to go with either a Navy Arms (Uberti) Henry or a Rossi, all .44-40!

I just picked up my Uberti 1873 a couple of days ago. I have a stainless Ruger NM Vaquero in .45 Colt with a 7-1/2" barrel and a stainless Uberti 1873 single action in .45 Colt with a 5-1/2" barrel. I think they will make nice companions to my 73' Short rifle!

Well... my '73 is in caliber 38-40 so my brace of 5.5 inch Colt clones would be the companion handguns to go with it. Now my fancy SASS Colt is also a 5.5 inch 38-40.

Well, my '73 is in 44-40; so, a pair of pistols in that caliber would be a perfect match. On the rare aoccasion I shoot cartridge pistols, my brace of 44-40 Artillery model Catlemen come out of the safe.
