Picture of my garden today:
Still spading and getting it to max size.
Mustard, spinach and turnip greens have gave into the heat. First planting of beets will be ready to use about early next week. Sugar Snap peas are setting, some tomatoes are also. Ate the two kohlrabi that my daughter bought as plants, the ones I planted from seed is starting to look like knocked up collards. Picked the first collards yesterday, supper tonight. First planting of green beans are budded, the second is close.
I have crowder peas planted here and there as space opens up. Got a heat resistant pea planted, we'll see what happens, first ones didn't do well. Parsnips are in, but not up. Got some more radish planted here and there, also planted some dill. I have 20 pickler cukes and 10 salad cukes doing well, bush type.
Second planting of carrots are doing well. In the far back I have two separate plantings of the Three Sisters, mine is Country Gentleman sweet corn, sometimes called shoepeg corn. I have pie pumpkins and butternut squash in that as well as Calico/Christmas lima beans to climb the corn.
Off to plant some more green beans and some more crowder peas, more spading when I get home tonight when it's cool. I'll stop and try to pick up some straw bales on the way to work for mulching.

So after some work today it looks like a cut wheat field with weeds growing in it.
That will help retain moisture and keep the soil cooler. We're having the hottest spring on record so far. Will have to get some more soon and add more where needed esp the bare spots that ain't ready to mulch yet.

Well living in a self storage facility apartment I have very limited space. I do grow several peppers, a couple of tomato plants, various herbs, onions, cucumbers and other misc plants. I'm a real fan though of Asian, Italian foods so that will tell you what my growing is aimed at.

I was hoping to begin harvesting Homegrown Tamaters this weekend. Plenty of green fruits none ripening yet. The Duke's will remain chilled till they ripen

The second planting, it will need a bit more weedin' before it takes over:

We got our's planted just before Memorial Day. Tomatoes, lettuce, okra, fennel, chard, and garlic (planted last fall). The herb garden is thyme, rosemary, parsley, oregano, chives, more fennel, dill, cilantro, and sage. We have planted one each year since we've been marreid so this is our 18th garden. Of an evening we have dinner out in the screen room and watch the plants grow and the birds drink from the dished in the garden. The garlic will be harvested on the 4th of July and other things later as they ripen. Looking forward to the first fresh tomato sauce of the season over pasta. We also have flowers planted, zinnias and such. Herseldf and I argue over why we plant the okra, she thinks it is for the pods, I plant it because the flowers are so beautiful.

Yum!
Fresh 'maters & cottage cheese is a tasty little gift from God. It's my favorite snack. And I can easily make it the entire meal!

I have been dieting and I love cottage cheese in the summer with fresh sliced tomatoes or peaches or pineappple. It's more than a summer meal. May have to get some lowfat type and give it ago.

Just got a no watering order here. Not worried about the lawn, but man my tomatoes and such need it. I set a rain barrel up a few years ago to where my sump pump emptied. We had a very active sump, have always, even in the heat of august got ~ 50 gallons in 2 days. Things are so dry here I am down to ~20 gallons in 3 days out of the the sump. That will hopefully be enough for the garden. I have to say, a little worried about the odd bit of weather. We have always been able to rely on the sump pump for free watering, to the point some years in August I had to encourage my neighbors to use it as I could not empty it. Not good.

Been a while since I posted, been busy with my trip, have to weed and water today:
About a week out on the first sweet corn, it's looking good, glad I planted a drought resistant old cultivator. (Yuppies call them Heirloom types.)
Getting lots of cherry tomatoes, just started getting big ones, part of the cukes gave up in the heat as well as the first two plantings of green beans. Turnips and collards going in next week in their spots. Second planting of kohlrabi doing fine, okra stating to produce, crowder peas doing great, about ready to have carrots. The rest of the green beans may make it if we get a cool down soon.

I planted one tomato plant, I have made spagetti sauce I have eating mater sandwiches almost daily sliced maters with breakfast. I am getting 3 or 4 a day. My neighbors are not liking my visits with gifts either. I don't know what breed of nuclear growth this one is but it's not a Beefsteak like the pot tag claimed. The fruit ar 8 to 10 oz each nice firm round, deep red color when ripe. I have been watering regular and no additives. My celantro died off in the box and th echives didn't grow to well, everything else did exceptional

I'd gladly take some of them 'maters off yer hand, Lil' Roo ... my 'mater plantin' days are over. And now IS the season to enjoy nice thick 'maters - salted & peppered and then covered with cottage cheese.
But I 'spect that Indy is just a little too far frum Vir-ginny to take some of them 'maters off your hands, pard.
... or even some corned beef & cabbage, either!
