150th Anniversary Battle of Shiloh This Weekend
« on: March 29, 2012, 08:27:50 PM »
The wife, two grandsons and I are hitting the road for Tennessee tomorrow to go to the 150 th Anniversary re-enactment of the battle of Shiloh, March 31 and April 1.   Lots of activities, including the Confederate submarine Hunley, on display.   Website:

Lots of vendors there, more than 24 different sutlers.   Should be be awesome time.

Next year we're going to the 150th Gettysburg.

Use to live in North Alabama, was just a short drive to Shiloh. It's a good visit anytime of the year. You can drive around the battle field and stop at the important places with push button audio plays that tell you what and when the events happened at that spot. Also a good movie at the welcome center. Tj

I have not been back in years.  When I was young, we lived close by, went all the time, then moved north.  haven't been since I was 14, which means that was 31 years ago, ouch.

I did the 125th and the 130th
I think it was the 125th and it snowed, our poor Florida Horses had no winter coats, as spring had sprung and they had shed out.

Bloody Cold it was !

It was a great time, although the crowd was quite a battle.  I heard there were 2000 reenactors and about 12 - 15,000 spectators.  Great vendors camp, all the big names were there.  Dixie Gun Works had some great specials, especially when you consider no sales tax or shipping.   I saw a great shirt, but completed my tour of all the vendors and when i returned it was gone.
The cannons were a real treat.  Seeing about 50 of them fire off down the line.   One bad thing was seeing the reenactors holding up their cell phones and cameras while on the field, taking pictures.
We're going to Gettysburg next summer for the 150th and they are expecting 10,000 reenactors and a million spectators.
