Yes I have.  My mould was purchased used and getting the skirts to fill out properly is a challenge. The process of casting hollow-base bullets is slow enough as it is. Getting them into repro revolvers is a hit or miss proposition depending on the size & shape of the loading window. I have used them in .455 and .45 cowboy special where they are VERY accurate.

Better to stick to round ball for most cap & ball usage.

JimBob,

Greetings from across the pond.

I use the Lyman (Ideal) 450229 mold with great effect.
I shoot two Uberti Cattleman revolvers for CAS but being in the UK they are the cap and ball versions.
One is an early model and the rifling grooves are very shallow and I could not get good accuracy with round balls.
I found the mold on ebay and the hollow base bullet improved the accuracy a great deal.
I was looking for a second Cattleman to match the other pistol but was having difficulty finding one in the UK but by chance found a brand spanking new model in five and a half inch barrel.

The first outing with the new pistol and the hollow base bullet was brilliant. The first three shots joined together, but were slightly low so I may have to lower the height of the front sight. The load was 22g FFFG at about 17-18 yards.

My good old pard Paladin UK uses the same bullet in his 1860's with equal success.

It's a brilliant mold, well worth spending time casting for good results.

Merry Christmas

Ned
