I like the belt driven machinery.  Not sure if NCR used steam or water to power the belts but either have worked for centuries.

As I understand it, most of thoseearly industrial machinery belts were made from buffalo hide, which is why the plains were emptied as fast as they were.  Buffalo wasn't good for anything else but belts and rags.
