"Botas de Alas"
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:08:51 AM »
This is a pair of Botas de Alas or leggins that I made. I am going to start making these and also some chinks.
Swinging a rope is alot of fun unless, your neck is in the loop.

TexasToby, have you tried the boot top design yet?  Not sure how far the style goes back but it looks more like an early military leggin.  As an old diabetic I have been wanting to do a set to help hide some of the make-do footwear I have to use some times.  I think that the tight ones would just look similar to high top boots when worn over ankle high leather shoes?

They look pretty cool. I take it they are of Mexican influence.
So what keeps them up as you walk around?

Under the flap at the top, there is a strap of leather that goes around your leg, just below the knee, that buckles. Then at the 2 bottom conchos there is snaps and "D" rings to fasten around the leg, like a pair of chaps. Thanks for asking, Texas Toby

Are these what you had in mind?

I use these mostly for 1840's California, and they work well with boots and brogans.  The style does go way back...like renaissance Europe.
Ain't like the old days, but it'll do!

Yes Doc. thanks for the photo.  There has always seemed to be two distinct styles, one looked like the bottom of Batwing Chaps whail the other looked like the top half of a lace up Boot Moc.  Hmmm, make a pair of standard Batwing Chaps and cut them off at the knee to create a set of chinks and a set of leggings!    :D
