Howdy Pards,

My one and two year old 1875's were occasionally not cocking (hammer would not stay on the sear) during the stage, it would require me cycling through the empty cylinders until the hammer would catch on the live cylinder.  Didn't happen often but would usually happen late in the match.

I took the pistols apart and found the trigger sear chewed up.   I gave the pistols to a local pard to take a look at and he fixed them up by hardening both the trigger and the hammer as both were chewed up.  He also removed the pin from the hammer the safety as that was partially the blame for chewing up the sear.

Apparently Uberti has change steel to one which requires deeper hardening.

Anyone else had this problem?

I haven't yet. You ought to contact Uberti with your problem and serial # of the gun.

Frequent problem with Ubertis.  The steel is only surface hardened and once that hardening is worn away the soft inner wears very quickly.  Good thing your friend rehardened the parts.  Otherwise, the renewed sear surfaces would simply wear down very quickly again.
