Mag pouch question?

Guys, does it matter if the pouch is not stylish looking? If it is simple and works like a champ but is just as exciting as kissing the ugly pig in the pen, what say you?

If it is leather or canvas, conforms to the contour of your body, holds the magazines with the broad side against your body, holds no more than two magazines, and covers at least two inches of the mag body, you are good to go.

I finished the second one today, after tweaking the first pattern a bit. It is air drying now, after being wet molded, but I am hoping that when I get back to it I will be as happy with it as I think I will. Though it can orient the mags facing in either or both directions it should be determined ahead of time for a correct set to take place. In its basic form it is a very plain looking design without the nice flowing lines like some but does have a decent area that one could possibly add some sort of embellishment to. It will readily fit a two inch belt while covering slightly under 2 1/2" of the magazine.

The magazine pouch can be everything. It starts holding magazines and can look like anything. I created a holder for four mags. Why not something that has four or six mags? Two ain't a stuck number.
I am function over form. C'mon artists.

"• Magazine pouches can hold either one or two magazines."
This is straight out of the SASS WB Rule Book

It would be nice if such a carrier were legal. But, sadly, it is not. Maximum is two magazines per pouch. That uses up a lot of real estate for six magazines and really begs for a more compact solution -- like yours.

Here are two that I just made, front and back views. The left one was made first and is a good one but would only fit a 1 3/4" belt while covering just over the legal two inches of magazine. After a little bit of tweaking I came up with the second version and it easily handles a two inch belt while covering a solid 2 1/2 " + of magazine. These were made from pretty rough leather and finished in my new BPY color. They work pretty well and have the tensioner that you see.

Yeah, just something to practice. The base is an old shotgun "over the belt" leather. Easy to take apart.
Wonder why the "two per" rule?
Will reserve comments.

Had been hoping to finish one or two new mag pouch designs but between medicals and other chores I am just falling behinder and behinder. I did spend today driving over to Columbia to pick up my new '76 Centenial Model. Now to start working on having these declared the official Wild Bunch rifle!

Rules allow for only single or double pouches, no triple etc. However, one is free to put as many single magazine holders or loops
directly
onto a belt as you can fit. Kinda like bullet loops on a gun belt. This eliminates the shifting around of the separate pouches and the undesireable bulk they add to the setup.

Har! Much ado about "loop" vs: "pouch." I suspect that what will come out of this is insisting that the "pouch" sewn directly to the belt has to be closed vs: open on the end aka shotgun loop. Oh what tangled webs........

By carrying magazines in an open bottom loop the shooter is more likely to strip a round out of the magazine when it is pulled from the loop. Just a personal observation.

If you look at mine, they are loops on a belt. And they have leather stops just as a shotgun belt. They will not drop through the loop. The rules are the rules and the committee makes the rules. I have been in cowboy long enough. I have never created a stink on any rule for over twelve years. Ain't worth it and cowboy shooting is too much fun.
From my saddle, the loop and stop system satisfies the rules. But hey, C'est la vie.
Is it Saturday yet?
