Need Info on USFA Model
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:26:05 PM »
I'm looking at a USFA in 44-40 described as a "premier" "Frontier" SAA. I don't see this model description on the USFA site. Can you provide info on it? THANKS

Jughead,
Afraid we will need a bit more information.  "Premier" and "Frontier" are not descriptors that are generally used by USFA to identify any of their models.  Sounds like some generic terms that a dealer might have come up with.
Perhaps if you could give a description and price of the gun in question someone here will be able to be of help.

USFA does make a Frontier Six Shooter in 44-40 and 38-40. Guess it is patterned after the Colt Frontier Six Shooter in 44-40.
See:   http://www.tenring.com/FirearmsSingleActions.html
You have to scroll quite a ways down the page, but don't give up. It's number 66.

I stand corrected.  Thanks to Deadeye I do recall that USFA did replicate Colt's "Frontier Six-Shooter" marking on the left side of the barrel on their .44-40's and, according to Deadeye, their 38-40 models.  Took a quick look at their web site and couldn't find any current references to it.  I may have just missed it.

I resently purchased a 7 1/2 Nickle 44-40 NIB for $950.   The Frontier Six Shooter marking used large stamps not etched.  I got $1100 for it on a trade.

The Frontier Six Shooter only refers to the 44-40 and it's in large letters on the side of the barrel.  I saw the reference to the 38-40 on the Ten Ring site and that's a mistake on Ten Ring's part.

Just blew up the picture on the 38-40 on the Ten Ring site and it doesn't have the Frontier Six Shooter label on the barrel. mtone is correct that it's probably mistake on Ten Ring's part. Colt only made the "Frontier Six Shooter" in 44-40 so I would think USFA would only make it in 44-40 too.
