Old Mossberg scope for Low Wall
« on: January 10, 2012, 05:56:42 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I see on Ebay that the old Mossberg scopes M4C and M4D are selling between 150-180 $ . They were orignal for the old 140's -1950's Mossberg .22 cal rifles . They look period correct for my Uberti Low Wall in 38-40 and they have internal windage and elevation adjustments . Do you think they would take the recoil of the 38-40 BP load ?  I do not want to spend 180.00 $ just to have the scope fall apart .

The problem with a lot of older scopes like that is they were painted on the inside.Once you start using it,often the vibration will start the paint flaking off inside the scope especially when subjected to the heavier recoil of a caliber other than a .22.Over time it obscures the lenses and crosshairs.
