Actually is not mine.  A friend of mine brought it to me to clean up and see if I could find it a good home.   SN 28574 it is marked model 1865 and Burnside Manufacturer and has the Stabler cut off.  It has 2 cartouches on the stock, some case colors on the right side of the receiver, not much on the left.  The barrel has decent blue from the barrel band back to the receiver.  Forward of the barrel band not much blue.  The internals have case color like they were made yesterday.  The only down side is the bore is not very good.   Being a  1865 I am assuming it came to late to be used in the War but could have been issued for use in the early part of the Indian Wars.  Can anybody add anything?

Thanks,
T-Joe

T-Joe,

No specific information on where your Burnside Spencer went.  To Europe, to South America, out West and used by the Cavalry in the Indian Wars, more than likely released to the civilian market in the USA.  From the Marcot book, Spencer Repeating Firearms, info on the Burnside Spencer:

Hope this helps.

The wear patterns on the barrel and left side of the receiver indicate to me being slung by the issue Carbine sling and road in the socket attached to the cinch.  Does this make sense?  Although the cartouches on the left side of the butt stock do not show much wear, the metal parts do show wear.
