Forgot about Del's pic, yep that's the one! Ugly choice of color Tongue

The '54 Ford's tail light bezel's had a row of black rectangle's around them that the '52's and 53's didn't. That's how I tell which is a '54. Didn't the '52's have an oil bath air cleaner? Roll Eyes Huh

At this point that would be my paint scheme of choice if I was lookin' for a 57 Fors, just because it is so ugly and was so popular. Grin  But then if I was lookin' for a 55 Chevy I'd want the "Coral with a Charcoal Blanket" where the top and the trunk and tops of the quarter panels are grey and the rest pink.

Not sure about the air cleaner on the Fords, never been around many Y blocks.  The 52 with an 8 would be a Flatty, the 54 would be a Y-block.

All the flatheads had oil bath air cleaners.  Del, Dad had a friend that had one of those 55s that color, a 2r ht that he bought new. He still had it when I left home in 70.

Nope, they went away with it cause the original Nash engine didn't have one and it was a weird add on type.  Next generation engine had one that used a casting hole in the block like most stuff of the time.  That engine was a bit weird anyway, they changed the casting plugs and ran the push rods up through where the valves were on the flat head 6.  The y used the flat head in the low end American, the OHV 6 in the middle range Classic and the V8 in the high end Ambasador and Rebel.  The Rebel was the perfomance version.

Just had a couple girls in here, maybe 20, lookin' at cheap party hats.  Wearin' them $150-200 jeans.  One picked up a plain old palm leaf and said "this looks like something someone would wear workin' in a field, who'd want one like that."  I had my way I'd let the twits starve for a week and then make them throw bales in their fancy jeans for their supper. She's comin' 'round, Leo. All I've been able ta get 'er ta try's been ginger ale. Thankee.

Old man's '53 was two tone in greens, neither was a dark shade. The '57 was Coral Sand 'n white, the '58 was black 'n the '59 Galaxy was white with a gold interior 'n a white steering wheel.

Somewhere after the '59 'n November of '64 a bunch of new ones got flooded in Richmond durin' a storm. They were dried out 'n shipped 'ere 'n up Fredericksburg way. Dealers didn't let on. The word got out 'n 'n there was a big stink o'er it. He bought a couple Impalas in between the Galaxy 'n the 'bird.

All I remember 'bout the Ys was scrapin' gaskets off the valve covers 'n when I got a l'il older drillin' holes in 'em helpin' the ole man put oilers on 'em.

Arcey, I don't remember what the problem was with the Y block not getting enough oil to the rocker arms and valves. I'm sure that my dad installed his fair share of those top oilers as well.

I remember seein' them oilers to the rockers on the few I was around.  I think all I was ever around were in pick-ups.  The salt on the roads in the winers were less than kind on the Fords of that vintage.  By the time I got old enough to work on them and such most were gone.  Bought a whole 56 4 door Ford in late 73 for the tranny, it worked in my 49 with the Flattly, was a 6.  Took the thing to the junk yard, but I think the engine is still in a shed at the farm, don't know why we saved it, but it did run.  Think we thought someone might want it for a pick-up.

I sure you know pard but if that ginger ale don't stay down by late tonight you might want to take her to the ER.  When I have problems they tell me after 24 hours to get in because I may need an IV to prevent dehydration.

Something with the oil passage gettin' plugged with the oils of the day.  Stop and go driving and non-D oils with a lot of carbon still in them, they get the carbon out now and sell it, that I do know.

Yeah, that's what the wiki thing said but it didn't jog my memory. All I remember was ya had ta put an oiler kit on 'em if ya wanted ta keep the rockers rockin'. Don't know that I had a clue as to why back then. I was gettin' my hands greasy werkin' on cars with my Pop. All I needed ta know, I was happy.

Sometimes I find it hard ta believe the first time I remember seein' the things was on the third floor service department it Cavalier Ford. They had this big ole elevator what took the cars up 'n down. On the third floor of that very same buildin' is where I go Glockin' on Thursdays. Elevator's been replaced with a smaller one.

Yeah the Wiki refreshed my memory but also remember readin' in a book many years ago also.  So if I remember it from a book Wiki must be right. Grin

I remember the older Chevy's better, Dad drove them and helped overhaul a few of them old 216's.  Oil pump on those only made 15 psi, but it was for the rockers only, the rods and crank used dippers on the rods like a lawn mower. Roll Eyes

That 57 has the 312 T-Bird engine with the Paxton supercharger. It was the top engine option for 57. In 58, they offered a Police Intercepter engine option, which was a 352. This was the first year of the big block engines. I always wanted to find a 58 Ranchero to go with my 2 57s and my 59.

Mornin',

May your oil passages be free of sludge 'n harmful deposits.

Overcast, 37° 'n 77%. A chance of drizzle before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 46°. North wind between 11 and 16 mph.

Fine with me. Bit of a chill is OK fer taday. Guessers er sayin' o'er sixty at the radar trap, otherwise known as Waverly, for Thursday's OFSDAR shoot. Nice.

We just back from the park to let Victoria run loose. The temp. is 66 and it is windy. We had to make a grocery run for a late breakfast. A Denver Omelet and Grits for the main course.  We have left over beef stew for supper. Hopefully we will have a couple of good playoff games. I am afraid to make an NFC selection, but I'm picking the Pats over the Ravens. I am not a Pats fan, I just think they are the better team.

Get the same thing here. Talk radio's all screwed up on Sundays too. Got Funny 850 on 'til the game.

Doin' some house keepin'. Move some stuff 'round. Opened the safe 'n grabbed holt of my ole service pistol............................

HOOOOOOO-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, George Luger!!!!!!

Probably been o'er five years since I picked it up 'n weren't at first sher I could lift it. Smith 5946. All stainless. Pretty pistol but damned if I'd wanna carry the thing now. Stuck it on the Taylor (Official Scale of the Biggest Loser) kitchen scale. The thing weighted 2 pounds, 12.6 ounces with 16 115 grain Cor Bons in it.

Pulled the G34 'n stuck it on the scale. 2 pounds, 1.2 ounces with 18 115 grain Speers in it.

No wonder I wanted that Smith off my waist every affernoon.

The team from new york over the team from the land of fruits 'n nuts. Have I mentioned the Skins beat the team from new york twice this past regular season? New England over Baltimore.
