Ruger New Vaquero .45 Colt
« on: December 30, 2011, 07:42:04 PM »
Right out of the box, my new Ruger is great to shoot.  8)  Went out in below zero weather and
had a lot of fun with it before I froze out.

I just picked up a stainless steel 7-1/2" NV in .45LC a couple of days ago. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it sure balances great........ ;D!

Do not know why but in stainless the barrel appears longer to me than the 7.5 inchers on my blued cousins.

Hi

I looked at Ruger's website and they don't show ANY 7.5 inch Vaquero's They well 5.5 inch, 4.6 inch, and 3.25 inch Vaqueros.  The 3.25 inch ones are distributor specials.  Are these an older model of "New Vaquero".  I'm actually NOT trying to be funny with that.

Thanks

I looked for one also and never could find one in 7.5" barrel, I wound up buying a Cimarron done Uberti. It also shoots great I might add even with Black Powder loads in 45 Colt.

I've had my eyes open for a NV just like that one, 7.5 inch stainless but I haven't seen one in any shops for a long time.

I used to see them so have they quit making them? I never asked about ordering one.

Hi

I handled both a SAA and a Ruger New Vaquero at the last gun show (March 3, 2012).  The Ruger grip seemed slightly bigger and I have long fingers.  From an NCOWS perspective, I'd like to have the 7.5 inch Single Action, but they allow Rugers.  They look pretyt much the same on the outside.

I'm switching jobs and cities, so it will be a while before I have to make the choice and put down the $ anyway.

Ruger never made the New Vaquero in .357 with a 7.5" barrel and they have discontinued the .45 with the 7.5" barrel.  Not enough demand.  I picked up one 7.5 at a local gun show and another at a local gun shop.  They were both marked down quite a bit to get rid of them.

I knew they didn't offer the 357 and that explains why I haven't seen any 45's on the shelves.

I bought a couple of 7.5" stainless off Gunbroker about a year ago. I used to see quite a few but no longer check the Vaquero section anymore so don't know if there are any for sale. I paid less than $400 apiece for them.
They shoot great and I can usually hit the target with them. That's pretty good if you know what I mean, at least for me. They are the easiest guns I own to point and aim.

I haven't seen many NV's with the 7-1/2" barrels around. I am not sure if Ruger only offered them for a short time and then dropped them from production. I was able to score another stainless 7-1/2" since I bought my first one. They make a great set! Both are great shooters..... ;D

I have a pair of New Vaquero Bisleys in 45LC and use them for my main match revolvers.  They are great.  All I will have to do is install the reduced wieght mainsprings and have even more fun.
