About hats, how come????
« on: December 30, 2011, 03:00:43 PM »
How come it is that a fair quality felt hat, nothing great, just a fair hat, sells for about $100.00, that is until you want a high crown and a 5" brim, and then it costs $300.00? Come on now! That little bit of extra felt can't cost that much! Does anyone make a decent hat, like i said, nothing fancy just a decent hat with a high crown (preferably an open crown) and at least a 5" brim for around $100.00 ?

Rick, I agree about the nutria. I have a Stetson Nutria campaign hat that I like. I wear a size 7 hat. What brim and crown does the Resistol (just about my favorite brand of hat)have?

Darn it,was just trying to remember,i saw it a few days ago and i know it has silk band around the brim edge.all that was wrong with it is about 3 inches of it was lifted up,nothin at all a tiny dab of glue and iron it back down,he only had 10.00 on it but i was lookin for somethin else or i would have snagged it..I think it may have had a pinch front, cuase i hate the cattle crease, the cattle crease is real hard to reshape and get the creases not to show too much.

What I'd like to end up with is something like a Stetson Tom Mix, 5' brim, tall crown, crease front. I'm not too sure about the side dots. If they are there and don't want top come out then OK, I'll keep them. If they will come out then I'll take them out.

I got this real Stetson for $4 plus another $10 to shape it the way I wanted. Hat band I had layin around...

I don't want to tell ya how much I paid for this one, as it is a high crown, wide brim, and custom done....and a long wait to get it too...but it is just what the doctor ordered for the outfit.
