Got me an 1886 Winchester Take-Down!
« on: December 29, 2011, 02:46:31 PM »
Always wanted to add one of these to the collection.

On the way back from dropping my son and family off at the airport, I stopped at a gun shop I haven't visited in over a year.

There on the wall was a modern (Japan), unfired 1886, 45-70, Take-Down....Box, papers. etc....on consignment. The PO had a gunsmith remove the tang safety and install a tang sight. He then put it in the safe and never fired it.

The asking price was fair, but I asked them if they would present the owner an offer. I offered $300 below the asking price and the owner accepted!

This is a picture that I found on the internet as I haven't had time to photograph the actual rifle............and I know how upset we get when we post "New Rifles" without pictures....

I'll take pictures tomorrow and change it..........

I will no longer respond to the rants of the small minded that want to sling mud rather than discuss in an adult manner.

Looks good. I have one of the new "miroko-chester" 1886 short rifles with a 24" round barrel. The quality is outstanding. I think you will enjoy your new rifle.  Mine looks like this. http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?family=024C&mid=534175

i would be most interested in seeing a pic of this change if you do not mind. I've got a strong hankering for a big bore lever action and the original '86's are out of my reach right now.

Thanks & Happy New Year!

There's 2 dates they carve on your tombstone. Everyone knows what they mean. What's more important is time that is known as the little dash in between.

If you do a search there are a number of well written internet articles with great pictures showing the procedure.

Only take about 20 minutes.
