Video - Building the Remington Bulldog revolver
« on: December 23, 2011, 06:32:57 AM »
Here is the video that shows how the Remington snubbie was made along with some shooting of same. Hope you enjoy it.

I built this gun nearly 10 years ago for Roughshod in gratitude for all he has done for me. I borrowed it back from him to do the video. I'm not a gunsmith, so I'm sure this project could be executed much better by a pro. And, if anyone cares to do one professionally, I'd love to get a look at it.

Mike,

A really interesting video. I am not much enamored to the 1858 Remington design (I only own one) but this Bulldog intrigued me!

The front grip modification would be just the ticket for me with my full sized one (I think that's why I'm not that fond of my own 1858 Remington).

You could have mentioned how you retained the cylinder pin, and the finish on the gun.

Another job well done!

I should have showed this...the basepin is held by friction. There is a nut in the frame, secured by the screw that formerly held the rammer. The flat of that nut bears against the bottom of the basepin...a neat idea, but if I was doing it again I'd just drill and tap the end of the basepin for a setscrew.

The finish is bead blasted for an in-the-white matt finish.

Excellent job there Mike!

Question, please: What type of heat source (propane, butane, other) did you use for silver soldering?

Thanks,

Jason

Hey Mike.  I know Roughshod, a.k.a. Jay Harrel.  Next time you see him tell him I said Hi and that I'm in Iraq working for a Contractor fixing 155mm howitzers.  If you see him before Sunday tell him to have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

And a Merry Christmas to you as well.  Keep up the great work.

Grapeshot
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Love it!

I have a useless Remington gathering dust that may get similar treatment.  I already had to cut the barrel down to just over 6" because of a factory QC issue.  Cutting 4" more and rounding the grip wouldn't be much more trouble and if I can find a conversion cylinder for the Pietta "on the cheap."  I really don't want to put a LOT more money in it, but as it stands now, I have an 1858 paperweight.  This might put more life into the old thing.

Howdy BDM,

I'd like to view your movies,  but they show up as a blank screen with no link.  Could you please post the link as well as the movie?

Thanks,
