1873 Winchester in 1875 Winchester Catalog
« on: December 18, 2011, 08:51:01 AM »
Thought I would let my fellow 1873 enthusiasts know about this neat historic Winchester Catalog.
I have a copy and it sure goes nicely with my 1873 Winchester rifle. :)

Retired printer has about 90 copies left.....

>pages 3-6 - '73 rifles illustrations

> page 7 shows the ammunition components including the bullet profile.

>pages 8-9 illustrate all of the sight options

>pages 10-16 show cut away views,, parts listing and illustration and "What to Do" directions

>pages 17-22 explain the benefits of the new Model of 1873 and the purpose and popularity of Winchester Repeating Rifles

>pages 23 to 40 - contain testimonials (1873-1875) of folks that had used the '73 rifle with great success including such notables as "Buffalo Bill" Cody, William Lyman and Billy Dixon of Adobe Wells fame.

>pages 41 to 42 - testimonials on the Model 1866 rifle .

>pages 43 to 48 - testimonials on the Henry Rifle dated 1861-1867

>pages 49 to 60 - illustrate the different Metallic Cartridges made by Winchester at that time and was the first Winchester catalog to do so.

>pages 61 to 62 – loading tool and instructions

>pages 63 to 65 – prices of ammunition

>The back cover shows an illustration of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company as it appeared in New Haven, Conn. in 1874.

Please see the listing in classifieds for more information on obtaining a copy.....

Howdy
I got my 1873 Winchester catalog today . And did you know that 1000 rounds for a 73 is only $20 . The catalog is a neat piece to add to your collection . It's well worth the $12 .

I bought mine about 3 years ago, after seeing a copy that belonged to a friend in Utah.  There are only two or three originals known to exist.    I saw an original that was in Jim Gordon's collection back in 1997.  He sold his entire 1873 Winchester collection and related collectables in May of 1998 and his 1875 catalog was part of that auction.   The condition of that catalog was spectacular.  I beleive it sold for $3250.00.   About the only difference between the reprint and the original is the color and graphics on the cover.   Anyone who buys this reprint will be pleased.

I`ve got what I believe to be an original.  How can I authenticate ?

You might want to post this question on the Winchester Collectors' forum http://www.winchestercollector.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=3 They have some pretty serious and major collectors on there that might be able to give you some solid input.

Gripmaker, The Pathfinder,

A retired printer in my area still has some left but doesn't want the hastle of mailing, collecting money, etc. so I can get the reprints from him and take care of getting them to the post office.  The cost of the catalog + postage is $12.

PLease send me a PM with your address, and I will obtain the catalogs and mail them to you along with a return envelope for payment.

Sincerely,
