Antique Sewing MAchine
« on: December 03, 2011, 01:46:50 PM »
Today I came across a sewing machine in a pedal cabinet.  The machine is a Wheeler & Wilson No.8, dated circa 1876-1880.  It seems to be in operating condition and I am pondering if I should buy it or not.  The table is in good condition and has three drawers along the left side...even had some accessories and a repro manual...cool looking....$195.00 is the price  hummmm should I or should I not????? :-\

Also found a nice stitching horse...needs a little work and some replacement parts but overall is in fine working order...$40.00 on it

At that price the worst you could do is end up with a really neat looking plant or display stand.  On the other hand, you could have a working treadle sewing machine.

That's how it starts!  Or continues...  I have 5 machines, and none that will sew a holster.  I passed on an 800 dollar 205-64, last week,  just because I was in a cheapness funk.  Now it hurts.

I think you should buy it ;D

I have an old treadle Singer sewing machine that was my Grandmothers and believe it was from farther back in the family. I've thought that one of these days if I could ever get some of my other to do list narrowed down I would try and get it going. I'm pretty sure it is all in working order other than needling a new belt on it.

My computer sits on a 6 drawer Singer treadle. Makes a nice  computer table and looks WAY cooler than anything else. I also have a couple of hand crank Singers in the attic, plus a couple of electric cabinet models. Funny thing is I handsew all my leather!

I'll be down there later, yep sounds like a Wheeler 8 too i knew it was something different than i'd seen before it was just lying side way on the floor like he had just got it in and hadn't had time to put it up yet.
