45 LC or 44-40 for Deer ?

I have a 73 in 45 LC and an 1860 Henry in 44-40.
I also have finally started reloading in the 45LC with my Lee 1000. 44-40 loads will be following soon .Does anyone have any opinions on hunting loads for my Ubertis.  I have never used my cowboy lever guns for deer. A 308 with a scope has been my tree companion up till now. I hunt in the woods with no shots over 50 yards so I figure I should give it a go.  Plus these are my favorite guns.

Make sure it is legal ta use either of those calibers for deer in yer state, some places it is not. WM

I know this is late, because deer season is over, but from my experience and future thought, the Hornady LeverEvolution ammo is great in .45LC. I live in KY, but Indiana where my buddy lives, will only allow handgun calibers in rifles for deer. Most shoot 44mag or maybe 357. I don't know if anything like a .454 Casull is legal or not. My Nephew Deer hunted with my 1990s Puma '92 carbine  ;with the .45 LeverEvolution. Although he didn't get a shot at one, we shot two boxes (20 rounds each) just to see how the accuracy was before we went out. The Hornady's turned the Puma into a 100 yard gun with very good accracy.( Better than my eyes with iron sights. I've given over to a scope on my Marelin 336.)

I've got rifles in 45 Colt, .44 Spl. and 44-40. Since you have a self-imposed a limit of 50 yds, either calibre will do. It's a question of which do you prefer to carry?
My 44-40 Henry is a bit on the heavy side, off set by the fact that it has a sling. It's rock steady in my hands and 'hangs' like a muzzle loader. My .45 Colt 'Lightning' is a joy to carry but will hangup if not operated in a very positive manner.

The .45 Colt throws a heavier ball, but a well placed 200 gr RNFP is going to do the job just as well. No deer will notice the difference.
