I tried my hand at making some period Segar packs along with some matches. The National Guard Half-Pounds and XX Brand are 1850s era while "The National Tobacco" is late 1860s/early 70s (Note the 1871 tax stamp). I also included an 1840-50s era Young America brand pack of pipe tobacco.
The 3-bottom match boxes are modern with reproduced from my own collection, my friend Absolomgrimes in the UK and a Sullivan Press CD. The central box with the title of "Commerce, Peace & Plenty" is an 1872 label. Because of its dimensions, I had to make the box itself entirely from scratch.
Amazing what you come up with while sitting down to do arts and crafts with your 7-year old.
