I got wind of some antique guns going up on auction last night.
...I only heard about it Yesterday afternoon in a sorta oh ! by the way conversation.

Presale viewing was Thursday night  Roll Eyes  so I was at a disadvantage at the get go..but went anyway.

Mosty, 22's, a few Hunting Guns, (not anything to knock your socks off )  and this 73  Wink  which really peak my interest.

Well I sat there , while they ran the hammer on Furnature , brick a brack, etc. and finally the GUNS...

Course they pittled with the early 20th. century 22's and such...while I waited for the 73 and waited and waited.

Finally , Lot # 4403 .... It was early an 1880's in 44/40 the flyer said , 30'' Oct. barrel, I though it in pretty good condition
but I did not get to handle it though.... ( I'm a little questionable about the 30" barrel too  Undecided it was longer then 24" though ! )

opening bid was $ 500 ...I was in at $600 out bid at $700, then another bid @  $800, I jumped in again at $900..
It quickly went to $1000 , 1100 , and I tried $1200 my limit ( as my wifes nails dug deeper into my arms flesh ! )

It finally went for $1750 .... sorry for small pic. it's from my Cell phone

My wife informed me "smiling" on the way home  " well ! we still have the money ! "   "WE" she said !

I hate auctions !

Well in light of another day ...$1200.00 would have had to come in part from the account ear marked for our home property taxes.
Money I should not have spent anyway  Embarrassed

But darn it , taxes are no fun....  Roll Eyes

I traded a couple USFA pistols for a '73 38-40 this morning.  Great bore, decent wood, mostly brown patina, but the action is a little stiff.  I hope a good cleaning will bring her around.  Might try to figure out how to take a picture and post it later today.

Just remember that rifles is like women and buses, another one comes by every 15 minutes.  Some are just more expensive than others!

You'll get another chance soon, Brother, so don't fret!  However, DO squirrel that money away that "We" saved, LOL!

Cheers!

Well, alot of the patina was Real Live RUST.  The bore is shiny and clear, but shows it had lots of rounds run down the tube.  I have been soaking it in Kroil trying to get the dust cover and the lever and lifter springs off.  Hope it comes loose tonight.

I finally took it to a professional to get it apart.  It is cleaning up nicely, I hope it shoots.  I have not had much time to work on it this week.  My 2 1/2 grandaughter is staying with us and she is pretty high maintenance.  She is fun but demands a lot of attention.

I will see if I can take a picture once it is back together.  Then I have to get around my computer challenges to see if I can post it.
