My new holster rig arrived!....Western and Wildlife Wonders
« on: October 28, 2011, 10:10:59 AM »
I wanted an inexpensive double holster rig as my first CAS leather. I looked at Oklahoma Leather and Hunter Leather as the two least expensive sources. First problem is NO ONE has a full set of belt and L+R holster. I checked everywhere and folks just are not stocking them.

I did see and feel an Oklahoma holster at a local gun shop and felt it was very thin leather and would be difficult to reholster the revolver under the pressure of speed.

I have a few Hunter holsters for other handguns and for the $$ I'm always impressed. But again, couldn't find one source to order a whole rig from and I was concerned about ordering pieces from different suppliers as to proper color match of the leather.

On this site I found reference to Western and Wildlife Wonders.   westernandwildlifewonders.com

I looked at the pictures of the Bounty Hunter Rig and thought this would be a good first rig. At $168 for a belt and two holster I didn't think I was risking much. I sent an email to Don Holman , the owner, about availability. He told me if I ordered it today, I'd have it in three or four days.

So for $168 plus $10.95 shipping, the order was placed.

When the box arrived in three days from Washington State to Massachusetts, I was very impressed!

Upon opening the box I was blown away by the great heft and quality of the rig.

My Ruger 5.5" New Model Vaqueros fit perfectly. Like these holsters were custom made for them!

The quality of the stitching and the tooling is very nicely done.

The openings are nicely flared

The buckle is nickle plated and of a nice hefty weight

The back of the holster is nicely tanned

I'm very pleased with this choice so far. A full review will be on my web page after I use them a bit.

I know I am digging up an old thread, but I was looking into this company/maker and found your photo review. I thought it was certainly worth bumping for your pictures (very nicely staged) as well as for the pictorial look into this leather product.

Lots of great cowboy gun leather out there. These look fantastic, especially at this price point. How have these been holding up for CAS?

Wow! I can't believe I've been playing this game since 2011. Feels like I just started shooting last year!
The rid is holding up very well. I bought another whole rig from these folks for a pair of 1860 colt conversions and this set is also working out great.

I've been enamoured with all things Old West and cowboy my whole life but did not discover CAS until 2009. I was hooked immediately and the search for all things Old West constantly and vigerously lives within me. I started cowboy action shooting with modern CAS in mind but as I continue down this trail westward back into time I find myself wanting more historical accuracy in my trappings. Calibers, guns, leather, clothing, the vernacular of the period, etc...  I am afraid someday I will come home with a nice 1870's A fork saddle, and me sans horse at this point in my life!

Right now I am searching for some new leather, more truly representative of what I see in old photos, books, etc that would fit the historical role/look "just because" but perhaps also for a little CAS/NCOWS usage. The makers and selections for this gun leather style are not exactly numerous, but there are several from which to choose who certainly are excellent choices from what I have seen so far. This is going to be a fun search with undoubtedly addictive results.

rbertalotto, I am currently searching for a gun leather set up for my Richards-Masons conversions. Sounds like you have a rig for guns similar to what I am doing. Would you mind posting a picture or two of the leather you have with your 1860 conversions?

Thanks!

This is the rig I currently use for my 1860 Conversions

http://westernandwildlifewonders.com/shop/western-holsterrough-out-money-belt-combination/

And I just saw it is on sale!

It is a rough interpretation of the John Wayne holster and rough side out belt. It gets lots of great compliments at the shoots.

Nice looking rig although I favor the Cheyenne style you first posted.

Leather is almost as fun as the shoootin' irons, I have discovered.

From the looks of your holsters and belt, it's probably a set of Classic Old West (COW) leather, they make excellent entry level leather that is probably all one will ever need...  Looks like you found a winner....
