Arness was in several low budget SF Movies. He was The Thing and was in 'Them' about giant ants.

Some unknown Italian director was looking for an actor to play in a cheapy western.   James Coburn and Charles Bronson were offered the part and both turned it down.  Movie was "A Fistfull of Dollars"..... we know what little known TV actor was willing to take that part,.....   ;)

Wayne's love interest was Roger's sister in the film ,and Roy was Confederate
Gabby was Gabby..title escapes me

The movie is the one where the Duke asks Gabby if he wants a bite o tater,always cracked me up cuase i like raw tators with salt.. ;D Gabby replies "caint,break ma plate" :D

Tyrone Power's father (Tyrone Power Sr.) was the heavy in "The Big Trail"  John Wayne first starring roll
