Well I went out for coffee this mornin'.  Phone rang at 7:20, was Rita out front, car wouldn't start.  Went out to see if I could jump it, cable ends were loose and corroded.  (She uses a full service station for gas, all she has to do is have them check them now and then.)

Grabbed my door handle off the passengers side and tried to get a quick fix so she could just stop after work and have Jeff or Dough fix it.  Nope, so I told her I'd take her to work.  She made fun of me puttin' my DeWitt Newbrassky door handle back on. (Going to buy every old visegrip I find cheap, looked at the China ones, they can't build stuff like a bunch a bohunks can.)

Anyway when she got in she sat her butt on my starting pliers and complained it smelled like cigar smoke, should have made her walk. Grin

Went to Ace Hardware, bought two ends, and a wire brush cleany thing since the one I've had for 35 years sprouted legs.  They asked me if I was having' battery trouble, told them the whole story about the visegrips and my starting pliers and said worst thing was I hadn't had coffee.  Well next thing you know I have a cup and was invited to hang around and chat since they wern't busy and were just about to have a cup them-own-selves.  Did I ever mention I love my local ACE. Bohunks?

Folks of Czech desent from Bohemia, Vise-Grip locking pliers were invented by a Bohunk farmer from DeWitt Nebraska and the majority of the folks who made them were of that linage, that part of the state was settled heavily by Czech's esp from Bohemia.

I of course am only an honorary Bohunk based on my Czech cooking skills and my knowledge of the proper flour to use for the rye bread and the history of why it is proper.

Leo, save me a couple of those pulled pork burritos, Victoria and I slept through lunch.  I guess there is something to say for a man that sleeps more with his dog than his wife.

Put on my cowboy gear with Shorty 'n Miz Taylor in the rig. Wore the arrow hat. Same as the flower hat but with the arrow in place. Put the Mannheim Steamroller sound effects CD in the garage boom box 'n sat out front not spectin' much. Kids cleaned me out. Even the l'il bags ah Utz pretzels shaped like bats 'n punkins I wanted ta keep for myownself. Ain't that many kids in the hood. Wunner where they shipped 'em in from.

Aint spectin no one here, but folks do ship the kids from other neighborhoods where I used ta live.  Good thing it'll be quiet cause the one bag a candy we had is down ta four a them fun size bars.  Neighbors didn't decorate so this little hill will go un noticed mos' likely.  We got some punkins without holes in em an corn stalks out there but we's the only one that sees em.

Yeah, what Leo said.  Happy All Hallows Eve..

Slim

When I was livin' the bachelor's life out in the mountains, I never expected to see any kids on Halloween; was a fair long ways between places out there, and DARK, with a triple DARK.  Well, there I was, playin' with some project or 'nuther, and the dogs started in like there was a varmint or something gonna get us.  I went outside and heard wee voices in the dark, so I turned on the flood lights, and lo and behold, here comes a bunch of kids down the road, in costumes, and carrying flashlights.  Caught me totally unprepared, but I managed to scrounge up enough odds and ends to give each one a single "something tasty"  They were from farther down the road about a mile or more across the canyon, two 12 or 13, and a half dozen from about 4, to 8 or 9.  I asked them wasn't they a bit wary of wandering around in the dark like that, and they said no sir, most of them had been living there since they were born, and that mountain didn't scare them one bit.

We don't get many here where we live now, either, even though we are really in the city.  All of these places are on half to one acre lots, there are no curbs or sidewalks, and no lights other than what folks have around their houses, so only the immediate neighbor kids will even venture out on these streets; a lot like it was up in the mountains, actually.  I've had four this evening, but it is quiet out there, now.

Only got the neighbor kids from upstairs so far...gotta whole dang 150 pc bag...
Promised a funny Hallerween bash tale......
Lived onna ranch with 60 head of horses an' assorted other banyard critters...our clan was notorious for the parties we had some 200+ folks showed up. Food, DJ the whole bit. Costume 'bout 10 yrs back was "Cousin It"...my hair was waist length at the time but hair needed 'ta be longer so I went 'round to most of the equines yankin' on their tails. Got a cussin' (or 5)...The horse's hair was washed a couple times and made into a headband and my own locks flopped over. A gal who was a hair/makeup artist helped me out. Had the goofy suit coat, tennies, love beads and heart shaped glasses. Night wore on an' I had another scheme...went to the barn an' got Blanco outta his pen and did the Lady Godiva deal wearin' a flesh colored leotard an' boots. 50 or so cars parked all sideways made is necessary to "walk my route" to get to the patio where all the action was....Got to the gate an' surprised the gang ridin' in.... Dancin' & food stopped dead 'cuz I didn't tell nobody bafore hand.
