Last of the USFA Revolvers?
« on: September 20, 2011, 04:04:48 PM »
Alex Hamilton, one of the largest, stocking USFA dealers and a huge supporter of USFA recently published this on his website:

September 16, 2011

About two dozen new, engraved and unique USFA single actions have been posted with a letter prefix. They could be the "last" of the excellent United States Firearms single actions available for all time.  If you have ever wanted to own one of the finest "American made" six-guns ever produced, don't hesitate, for this is probably going to be one of those, "I had the chance and should have listened moments" in the firearms industry!

http://tenring.com/FirearmsSingleActions.html#SP0021

This statement sounds rather ominous for USFA coming from one of their biggest dealers but time will tell for sure.

I hope it does not come to pass.

Hmmmm... sound omenous ..then it might mean just the special prefix models mentioned...

But it does , add new meaning to .... "Lifetime Warranted" USFA Single Actions  :-\

No company, no warranty....

hate to see it, but they priced themselves in the high end , and that hurt them.
when planets align...do the deal !

Their prices didn't hurt them near as much as making cute multi-colored guns, knock off Taurus Judges, and promising guns that either were never made or they made so few of them that it didnt matter.

These are Doug Turnbull guns.  I spoke with the company (Turnbull Mfg) and these were sold to a distributor in FL a couple of years ago.  The distributor went out of business and Ten Ring purchased many of them.  You'll also see some on Gunbroker from a dealer in AZ.   I think the Ten Ring post on his website is somewhat misleading.

Perhaps,  but cost is a factor

to these "cute multi-colored guns, knock off Taurus Judges"   I just said NO !"

this was fopaw on their part "promising guns that either were never made"

As nice as the USFA's are, still pricing them in Custom Colt territory was a limited cash cow.
as for the Turnbull adding premium another limited cash cow.

I saw one of Turnbulls finishes on a Pietta, nice as it was @ $1350 BUCKS  :o sorry Turnbull is nice but not $1000 bucks nice.
A local Gun shop has had it on consignment for quite some time....I expect it will either be pulled or sold to low offer...
less someone is the fool, PT Barnum spoke of...

Did they ever make any of the multi colored guns?  I know they were on their website but didn't these evolve into the "Shooting Master" in the all blue finish?

Talked to Doug Donnely and he said USFA is not EVEN considering closing,,and as a matter of fact, ready to introduce new models even.

Sure glad to hear they plan on staying in business.  But, introducing "new" models when they aren't even delivering what they already have advertised seems silly.

Yea, it would seem wisest to stick with what go you there,,and just produce them in a more timely manner.

Yep !
More new models , one can't buy .... isn't that Merwin & Hulbert game plan ?

Clearly 10 Ring is trying to hit a marketing nerve with Their statement
"...They could be the "last" of the excellent United States Firearms single actions available for all time.  If you have ever wanted to own one of the finest "American made" six-guns ever produced, don't hesitate, for this is probably going to be one of those, "I had the chance and should have listened moments" in the firearms industry! "
Rather ranchy advertizing there 10 Rings !

Miss lead, or word it so it's mis interpted  ::)

" The ten lettered "A" through "J" USFA single actions are a special, one time offering. They were a special run made exclusively for Turnbull Restorations who does all the special bluing and color case hardening for USFA single actions.  I expect these stunning six-guns to sell rapidly.  When they are gone "there will be no more."

As long as USFA still makes those fine Single Actions, I've got no complaints.
A work in progress.

It's amazing how everyone is always ready to jump on USFA and trash them, and darned if I can figure out why.  How about we encourage them instead of jumping on them every time they stub their toe a little?  They build a high quality product in America while so many of our guns for this sport are built overseas.

I have 3 revolvers and a Lightning and love them all.  I'll buy more in the future.  I'm glad they're willing to do a little experimentation with their product line.  I'd be first in line if they offered a shotgun or a rifle of some sort.

Actually few people, if anybody, "trashes" USFA products.  The criticism is over their poor customer relations and business practices.

Pettifogger, I didn't say people were trashing USFA products.  I said they were quick to "jump on USFA and trash them" - i.e. trash the company.  I've had excellent customer service from them and love the products.  I see people on these forums very quick to pile on any negative report (such as the misleading comments from 10-ring).

Seems extremely counterproductive to me.  Constructive criticism is one thing, this goes beyond that to just carping.

Anyway, I've now vented and won't say any more on this topic.

I don't own a USFA, they look really nice. I hope I never get to the "last" gun I ever own.  :) WM
