Wellll Cami....
Start one. As far as I know I'm the only AZSA member in Nebraska. I still haven't attended a match but have been working on some friends here. We're talking about having a side match after next month's cowboy shoot.
I would have to buy another gun safe and don't have anywhere to put it.
And I would have to clean out all my cowboy clothes to have a place to put me zoot suits.

Let me see,
Got 1880-90s for Cowboy dresses.
Got 1910-1917 dresses and suits for Wild Bunch
Now just have to add a closet for 1920s.
Already got a 1911, 1917 revolver and an Auto-Ord Tommygun so I think I am set there.

Major, I have acquired a Browning Auto-5 Riot gun(made in 1938). I'm shopping for a Tommy gun and hope to fine a used one at at reasonable price.

We're not kiddin'! The Hustler here, AZSA member number 1. Marshal, thanks for starting a Zoot Shooters sub-forum on CAS City. I trust it will be well used seeing how many of our members and supporters seem to be coming from SASS.
Our latest caper was the 2011 World Championship match. Marshal was there to cover it for an upcoming feature on Down Range TV. Looking forward to seeing that! I uploaded some photos of squad 1 on the website today. I will post match details and results as time permits. I plan to update the sponsors page as well (we gained a few more before the match).
Thanks to all of you for your support and comments! We need it for the growth of our sport. Please continue, we're listening.

Huster!
Glad to see you found us!
Pitspitr (AZSA #15) here. I've been appointed moderator of this board. I expect we'll have quite a bit of interaction here.
I'm still waiting to make it to my first AZSA match. I had plans the weekend of Nationals or I would have tried to come out.

Thanks again, Pitspitr! I'm glad Marshal put you in charge of the Zoot Shooters sub-forum and I agree, I think it will get plenty of traffic.
The World Championship was a great time. Don't worry that you missed it, next year's will be even better. It will be at the same club and we're thinking Labor Day weekend but that's still up in the air...

Howdy
I attended a Zoot Suit match in RI with Grizzly Skinner's group a couple of years ago. I had a ball. I have bunches of Double Action revolvers that I can't use in CAS. The Zoot Suit thing is the perfect opportunity. That time I used a pair of old S&W M&Ps. I also have a pair of S&W Model 1917s that I could use. It's always more fun shooting old guns in action shooting than it is punching holes in paper at the range.
I borrowed one of the Tommy guns for a couple of stages. Let me tell you, if you have never shot one, they are HEAVY, particularly because of the long barrel that comes on the semi-auto versions. Nobody is making the short barreled military version for commercial sale.
Don't sweat it about 'watering down' the CAS City forum. It will be fine.

Oh well.

Had an Thompson once. One of Auto Ordnance/Kahr's 1927A1 models. I had approximately two good days with it. First was when I bought it second, second was when I traded for a Taylor's '73.
Too many compromises for my taste. If I shell out better than a grand for something that's already a compromise, it better work. If it doesn't work AND it has a long barrel, requires an adult male to use both hands to get the bolt open, and includes a drum that runs for all of two reloads before going out of commission...forget it.
You couldn't give me one of the things at this point.
If I ever feel the compulsion for another big, heavy, archaic autoloader, I'm saving my money and tracking down or building a BAR instead.

Hi y'all
I own enough 1911's to shoot this, I can afford a model 97 or a double barreled shotgun, but I've handled a semiautomatic Tommy gun and it's not something I'd buy. Any chance of the Zoot Shooters moving to a wider selection of rifles?

I think we discussed opening it up to model '94's but I don't remember whatever became of the suggestion

Lemme get this straight .....
A CAS shooter in a sport (that USED to be Cowboy) that tolerates pop gun loads, slicked up SAA clones and short stroke lever guns has issues with Zoot Shooters and their REAL guns that shoot REAL ammo? What's wrong with this picture?
Kind of reminds of the early days of 'Combat Pistol' and rifle shooting ala Jeff Cooper. Here in Canuckistan, our biggest enemies were the bulls eye pistol shooters, trap shooters and the old boy 'Regimental tie' set that shoot service rifles to a thousand yards. They regarded us as a threat as we shot from the leather with real loads. It was the 'enemy within' syndrome.
Anyone that go 100 straight on a trap or clays range is a pretty deadly man with a gun. Same for a target rifle shooter capable of bulls eye hits at 1000 yards. That's a 'sniper' by another name. We had to point out to them that a gun is a gun; any shooting sport is valid. The anti-gunners don't differentiate.
Personally, I like the idea of a double breasted suit, brown fedora, Springfield .30-'06, Win '97 and a 1911 or Colt NS. Got the guns and the clothes. Just don't got the opportunity.

Amen Brother PJ! You got that right! They/we were listing links to our sports before the Marshall gave AZSA it's own forum here. We gotta all stick together or the anti's will shut us all down!

Hi
From the AZSA website:
"Matches may include any 1939 or older (replicas included) “guest guns” of any caliber in their caper designs so long as every match participant uses it. These guns must be made familiar to any participant before its use. Guest guns may exceed ammunition requirements and must always be used in a safe manner (eg, do not shoot a .30-06 rifle at close range steel targets!)"
I'm not wealthy and buying a Thompson is about 1123th on my list of things to go buy. Dad had to "fire for familiarity" before going overseas and he said it wasn't easy to shoot accurately. I can't afford a Class III, but I don't really want the semi-automatic version either. The 1911's I have and the double barrelled shotgun would work for CAS, NCOWS, and AZSA.
If someone brings one, I'll shoot it though.

My pard (I only know him here) Crow Choker is basically worried about "watering down" this great board. He's allowed.
He ... as well as the rest of us are also allowed to ignore any sub-board that the individual has no interest in. Ain't freedom wunnerful?
As to the Zooters, I personally find it pretty interesting, 'tho I doubt I'll ever have enough intere$t of ca$h to get into the sport. My main issue is that we, as freedom-loving Americans, SHOULD (IMHO) embrace
any
safe, reasonable shooting sport that furthers the 2nd Amendment. Our freedoms are under serious attack, both here in America and abroad by groups who wish to destroy OUR way of life; i.e. NATO. Among others.
"We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." Benj. Franklin

As said by PJ, "the anti-gunners don't differentiate." They hate ALL guns and they don't feel that we should have the rights guaranteed us. In THEIR opinion, only THEY have rights and we're all unwashed hicks who can't decide right from wrong and that the Government can
and will
provide all the protection we need.
