Source for lightened mainsprings for Uberti 1875 Outlaw

Howdy Pards.

VTI is out and has been for several months so I'm not sure if they will ever carry them again.  EMF is also out says they will not be carrying them again either. 

So, does anyone have another source for these springs?

Buy a set of stock springs and then grind and polish your own set.  Only takes a few minutes with a belt sander or a little longer with a Dremel.

I have an extra set of stock springs and I began making an hour glass shape on one.  Will I need to thin the material also?

This is my personal method.......everybody has their own. Some ways are good others are not.

I start by making a thin line down each side of the spring with a Sharpie.
Start and stop the line about 3/8 from each end.
Use these marks to grind the spring evenly along the whole length about a 1/16 per side......do each side evenly and test till you get what you want.
Then file, stone, or polish out all the grinding marks and round the edges

I personaly don't like Wasp wasted springs I think it changes the characturistics of the spring whereas narrowing the spring evenly maintains the characturistics and lightens the spring.
Thinning the spring is not a good idea ...again changing the characturistics of the spring.

 You can re-arch the springs with a little patience. I've had good results with this and if you set up a jig that holds the bottom of the spring you can get a really accurate and repeatable result. A little trial and error to get the first one right and you can duplicate it by making the next one to the same shape.  No grinding or polishing required!

I found it on midway USA. But now cannot seem to find it.  It had a main ,sear,and a ejector rod spring.

Does the 58 use the same main spring as the 75?  I have 3 58s that could all benifit from lighter main springs and some better hand/trigger springs. (all piettas)

Well, since the 75 is a Uberti gun and  you have Piettas I would call VTI and ask them.  I know that the 58s and 75s made by Uberti use the same main spring.  They have different stock numbers on the VTI website so it would appear that they are different springs.  VTI doesn't appear to have lighter mainsprings for the 58 on their website, but call them to make sure.

I have an Uberti 1858 Conversion. I am using the VTI sourced 1875 Light Mainspring in it. Works very well. Saying that ,the reason I am using the lighter main spring is that when adjusting the mainspring with the adjusting screw the screw would protrude from the grip a few threads with the stock spring and it does not protrude with the light spring. You can adjust the stock spring down to about the same feel it's just the screw head protruding thats the diffetrence. If you reload I suggest you load some cases with just the primer and make sure that the lighter spring reliably ignites them. My initial setting had occasional light strikes, I adjusted the screw one full turn from occasional strikes and it is now 100% with the primers I use.(Tulammo). btw the VTI part number for the Uberti 1858 and 1875 standard mainspring is the same.

You could always shorten the screw!
