Marshal H.

Iffn' this is a problem, I apologize & ask that you remove it! 8)

I was watching a program last night that had some information on the Patriot Act and this is some scary stuff!  We all need to be extremely careful what we say about Uncle Sam or we could find our homes raided by the Feds & git' hauled off to the hoosgow! :o

BW, I have heard some people say that PATRIOT doesn't add anything new, but just enumerates all the feds' powers to snoop in one place. If that's the case, it's a good thing, because it makes it easier to see just how much power they have grabbed.

I don't know if that's literally true or not.

I HAVE been reading a copy of Allan Korwin's Gun Laws of America, and there's a lot of scary stuff there. The governments have lots more power than most of us realize. And thinking about it is as frightening as remembering that someday, you're gonna die.

It's good for Uncle Sam to have control & keep order.  But I'm thinkin' too much control is a bad thing! 8)

Being a retired Federal Agent, I would say that if you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear. The Patriot Act was enacted after 9-11 to allow agents more leway and delayed reporting in efforts to identify and build criminal cases against suspected terrorist groups. A lot of the sections of the Patriot Act will expire automatically in December 2005, unless Congress allows them to continue.

I don't know anyone, and I doubt anyone on this board does either, who has been directly impacted by the changes in procedures allowed by the Patriot Act.

Keep in mind that when you live in a free country like we do, terrorists can take advantage of that freedom to do some pretty awful things, like happened on 9-11.

If only life were that simple. I have been on the receiving end of some misunderstandings with the governments, and it was ugly and frightening. Merely being innocent gains you nothing, if someone is "testilying" in order to get you.
