H.O.G.-Will Ghormley Thread
« on: July 02, 2011, 12:43:55 PM »
Will Ghormley is one of the most respected men on this Forum. Many of us have used his patterns and ideas for the holsters and belts we make. One of the most popular as of late is the Hand of God rig. I've seen several H.O.G. rigs, along with Johnny Ringo rigs, so I'm wondering if we might just dedicate a thread to display rigs made with Will's either patterns or ideas.

I own almost every pattern that Will makes, but I've yet to buy the H.O.G. pattern but plan to. I made at least a facsimile, following some but not all of the steps. I've yet to try a toe plug, so I'm going to have to tackle that one of these days. I used Fiebing's Walnut dye.

Even though there are much better renditions than mine, we have to start somewhere so he’s my first attempt at a H.O.G. rig, and also a Cheyenne holster. These are my first attempts to carve a holster. I haven't sewn the billet on yet, I'm waiting to size it to the buyer.

Here's hoping others will contribute their work.

Sounds like a good idea.

OK, pards. Start showing your WG rigs, even if you've done so before. 8)

Will Ghormley---maker extraordinaire----Here is my rendition of Will's "Flames of Hell" holster as worn by Charlie Prince.  Although Will has not made a pattern pack for this holster it is an easy one to make and adapt.  In these photos I have adapted it to fit Ruger Vaqueros.

Here is the HOG rig.  I have also started a crossdraw version of this holster but as of yet have not completed it.

That's beautiful work Outrider. I assume you did the fancy red thread stitching with a machine; am I correct? No matter how you did it it looks sharp.

The H.O.G. rig looks great. I've noticed most are thinner at the bottom than mane, and the keeper straps are higher. I like that look better than mine. I guess I ought to buy a pattern pack to get the correct dimensions,

Thank for the posts Outrider, you do great work. Can I ask what type of dye you're using & how you apply it? All of your rigs have great color & a great smooth look to them, very professional.

Wow, you're posting them quicker than I can comment on them! The James brother's holsters are both outstanding. Is that your Bisley in Frank's holster? I use Bisleys as well. They fit my hands better than a standard SAA grip frame .

JD,

The finsih on most is EVOO.  The Frank James and Flame of Hell holsters are standard Fiebings black.  The Hand of God rig was done with Fiebings black reduce by 1/3 to show some of the brown leather through the die.  Makes it look somewhat worn.

And yes...I have a set of New Model Bisley's and three Old Model Bisley's..also have plow handle New Model Vaqueros.

Outrider, beautiful wor on all but I am particularly found of the 'Flames Of Hell' cross draw rig.  I like my cap and ball holsters worn up high on the belt like you show on these.

JD and Outrider great work!! I agree Will's contributions not only pattern wise as a craftsman in general can't be matched!! Here are a few I've made with his patterns.
