Once the angle of the .44 Special carrier has been altered slightly ... yes. That was & is my experience with a .44 Special Henry. I shoot .44 Colt through her > 98 % and only rarely the .44 Special. She now cycles both cartridges effectively.

I am a huge fan of the .44colt. Would like to have a rifle that fed them good to go with my conversions/open tops.

Some 44 Spcl toggle link rifles cycle the 44 Colt fine (as long as OAL doesn't get too short) and some need some tweaking of the extractor.  I haven't shot 44 Colts through my 44 Spcl Yellowboy but I have cycled dummies through it and they ran fine.

My '66 .44 Spc. would cycle .44 Russian snap caps out of the box; but had to be tweaked to cycle my reloads.  Since tweeking the only problems have been shooter generated.

My Henry was chaamber sleeved from .44-40 to .44 Spl.  I wanted to shoot .44 Russian so the carrier face was modified.  I can load a mixed magazine of .44 Colt, Special and Russian and it runs fine.

There are two problems with Toggle Link rifles and .44 Colt.  Rim diameter and case length.  The extractor may require a serious "tweak" and the round itself would require careful setup for Over All Length to prevent double feeding.  A stock Carrier Block may not return rounds to the magazine.
A more FUN solution for me has been to get a modified Carrier Block from Adirondack Jack and shoot .44 Russian loaded short (160Gr bullet), or my .45 Henry Trapper and Open Top with .45CS cases.  Huge fun.
