History of the sodbuster pattern?

Does anyone know if the sodbuster pattern was popular in the US before their introduction by case? I thought i remember reading it was an old german pattern. Anyone know for sure? thanks

For those intrested, i learned from another board the design dates back to the 1890's.

A moderately large, plain-looking, single-edged folding knife with a slightly upswept tip.

The single-edged folder goes back in time - but mostly with a clip point or a spear point and not the upswept point that Case brought out after the turn of the century.
