OK, for the "it really don't mean poop dept" except for us here who sometimes wonder if their minds are playing tricks on them.  Well I got another one not here involved.   Grin

After several days of playing phone tag I got a hold of my friend DJ and got him asked about what the difference between Falcon and early Mustang front suspensions were since he was a front end man for many years.  After drivin' him crazy tryin' to remember also, we both did some checkin' and we now have the answer.  It is the steering gear box, the Mustang having a tighter ratio as we remembered.  The other differences involve that because the center link and the idler arm are different.  Also if the Falcon came from the factory as a 6 cylinder, it has a lighter spring, the factory V8 Falcons used the heavier front spring that was used on both the v* and 6 cylinder early Mustangs.  Of course both used that silly 4 bolt pattern wheels for the 6 cylinder and the 5 bolt pattern for the V8.

DJ is learnin' computers and right now has limited access at work and the library, but he is thinkin' he needs one for home.  When he does that I'll get him over here, he will fit in real nice with the rest of us, fairly smart, middle aged, likes guns, cars, dogs, good food and all that.  He does now like Subaru's as drivers, but has a couple 'stangs and an old F-150 pick-up.  Yep when he gets on-line at home I'm going to have to drag him screaming and kickin' over here. Looked thru the NAPA books a couple times 'n couldn't find it. Figgered it was age. Was plannin' on eatin' it.

The '63 Falcon had five bolt, 13" wheels. Never could figger it. The '91 5.0 had 16" four bolt wheels. Never had one come off so I reckon it was ok............

OK, if I'm right the 'stangs had 14" wheels from the factory instead of the 13" of the Falcon, forgot about those 13" ones.

Now I do know the so called 64 1/2 Mustangs had an generator instead of an alternator, think they had the Falcon speedomoter also and then went to the round ones.  Geez all that has been so long ago.

Nother one I ran into way back when, late 70's Pontiac'sin the full size had a different rear bumper 'tween the 2 dr and 4 dr.  Never figured out why, not sure on the other GM's, just remember a POed customer one time whe the bumper rebuilder sent the wrong one and it was found out late on a Friday afternoon as we were tryin' to get it finished for him before quitting time.

Call and send the parts runner, we got it done a little late but before the weekend.

Think they did have 14s. Later models like the 5.0 went from 15's to 16s when they dumped the carburetor for fuel injection. I think.

The 64 1/2's and 65's had the same cluster as the Falcon's unless you ordered the performance package( tach, etc.) or got  the GT in '65. that cluster was the standard one for '66( round dials). My first car was a '65 coupe, V-8 with a 3 speed on the floor. Next horse was a '66 a few years later, a coupe again( never could find a fastback when I was looking), V-8, auto....Buck Roll Eyes

DJ owes me big time anyway.  Just on car stuff, not counting Old West and Computer stuff.

Had to explain to him last night the AMC 195.6 flathead they got when the took over Nash was the same engine with a different block casting and head as the 195.6 OHV used in the higher end models till 63.  Simple redesign rather than a complete development for a new engine.  Worked fine alo, the OHV version was about the best if not the best I-6 of that era.  Made 127 HP, with a 1 barrel Carter, not bad in the era at all.

Aftnoon Ya'll, finally got hyar 4155 miles more on the truck (pickup ta you Del) than there was 9 days ago. Thanks for the heads up Major. I just read it and am already thru NY. I usually don't go quite fast enough ta get stopped. Close most of the time though. Speaking of Mustangs, 1990, 25th anniversary model only came with one option manual or automatic. Everything else was standard, ragtop, 5 liter, British racing Green, white top. Had a feller tell me they didn't make a "25th anniversary model", showed me in the bookstore it said there was no such thing. Took his but out ta the parking lot showed him the dashboard where it said 25th anniversary. He said "huh".  Bought it for Miss B for her Birthday in 1990. She still got it. WM

The Mustangs in 65 and 66 had an option called the Ralley Pac which was attached to the steering column, It consisted of a Tach and a Clock. It was offered in the GT and 2+2 models also.

Neat site Arcey, we were talkin' last night about cars, a favorite subject of ours.  We got to the part about how these early cars were not really that ggod, lotta hoursepower for the time, but lousy handling and perhaps even worse, lousy stopping power.  He told me about a friend who always wanted a Mustang, bought a 66 and went all though it, dead stock.  Guess he'd forgot a bit cause he asked DJ if something was wrong with it or if they really handled that bad when new, yep, they did.

Hope that didn't hurt anyone's memory, but it's pretty straight up truth.

Yeah.......

Like I said t'other day, the l'il black truck woulda run circles around the Falcon. Add ta that stop better too. Back then though we did have a light, quick l'il car relatively speakin'. Thought so anyway.

Heck, the station wagon might out drag it but I think I've learned it don't like turns..........

I remember bein' in a friends 67 Goat, 400 4sp with headers and some fairly big Holley, thing would go or we thought so, had a rev limiter on it called single points, good thing, he ran it out to there one day and backed off, next thing I know I here of fudge, brake fade, cept he didn't say fudge.  Anyway he used the gears and got it down enough the brakes would stop it as we almost ran out of road.  And till I think maybe 66 or 67 none of them had dual brake masters in them.  Pop a line  or something none at all, at least with the dual cylinders you had some as long as you didn't pump more than once or twice and realized what was up.  2 brakes on either end are better than none.
