Winchester Model 1866 Parts or repairs
« on: March 23, 2011, 09:01:47 PM »
I recently acquired a Third Model '66 musket.  I knew the tip of the extractor was missing and that I would have to find a replacement or a way to repair it.  However, I was disappointed to also learn, upon pulling off the sideplates (which are, incidentally, extremely SHARP!) that the left link is broken just forward of the joint and the forward portion is missing.  Is anyone aware of a source for extractor and left link?  Barring that, does anyone have any experience or tips on rebuilding the link?

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks--

No offense, but since you cannot shoot it & you might destroy some of the collector value I'd leave it alone.  ;)

I don't personally know of a source for parts for an original '66.  I'm sure there are some, somewhere but I can't point you in the right direction.  Any parts you find will be cannibalized parts from a junker.  There are no "new" parts.

An Amendment!!

I have located a source for original and reproduction parts for "original" 1866 and "original" 1873s.  A gentleman by the name of Albert D Buckingham, "The Winchester Man" ion Trenton Tennessee, has parts.  Lots of parts.  His parts are NOT for Uberti or other reproductions.  They (the parts) are for ORIGINAL Winchester guns.  I was referred to him for some parts to rebuild a '92.

For DJ,

His catalogue lists link sets (they should be replaced as a pair) for the ORIGINAL 1866.  I didn't see an extractor, but you might want to give him a call and ask.

Albert also told me he has about 600+ guns for sale.  If your looking for something Winchester, between the 1866 and the 1906, including Mod 67s and 37s, you might want to give him a call @ 731-559-4169.  I'd like to take the time to go visit and just browse thru 600+ rifles :o :o :o

Albert has been dealing in original Winchester parts for 50+ years.   His prices are high, but if it is a difficult part to find, he probably has it.  Good luck.
