Screw-ups?  What screw-ups would those be?   I didn't see any, but I might be biased, seeing as I've been living rent-free under Forty's lawn for some time now.   ;D

Course, I been bribing him with another story, so I don't think he's noticed yet...

Aye, Post 5 has General lee in there several times instead of General Lee. And twenty-four is typed as twenty=four. I didn't go over it with a fine toothed comb because the story *grabbed* me and carried me with it.

No errors jumped out at me on Post 4, but again, it swept me up. Well done, Forty Fonzai!

Better now?  I think i found them all, but I've been surprised before.

FWIW, the episode of the general demanding surrender is based on a incident that I've heard about over the years.  It allegedly took place between a Union General named Custer and a Confederate Captain named Price or Pearce.  I've heard the tale many times but have never found definitive documentation that such a meeting actually took place.

Hamp, if you stop aggrevatin' Miss Annie, your chances of livin' through to the end will be greatly improved.  Even gettin' thwapped with a hat shortens your span.

Appears to me what we have here is a clear cut case of assault and badgery - I badger and Annie assaults.  Ain't that the way it's 'posed to be? ;D

First, a big :P to the previous posts about me. :P

I just finished reading the last two installments. Dang. Well done, Forty Fonzai! You did a great job capturing the sentiments and thoughts of those about to surrender and face a new life.

In Reply 7, there are a few typos:

“Man, that fells real pee-culiar.  Guess It’ll take some getting’ used to.”
"Fells" should be "feels"

next paragraph: "but coffee was might scarce" should that be "mighty" not "might"?

And the following paragraph:" Well, suh, You an’ the boys here" the "Y" should be lower case.

AnnieLee, still feeling almost choked up.
