What the heck is up with the SASS site now?

When you get an error message like that, it means that there too many requests for the database to handle the outputs.

A forum like this and the same goes for SASS and TFS, uses a database to collect information every time a page is downloaded to your computer. When traffic is high on the server, the database needs more time to collect the information and send it out. A forum is like the old fashioned general store where everything is handled over the counter. More people in line, the longer it takes for each one to get what they need. In this case, the Monday traffic is in other words to high for the SASS wire right now to handle all requests at the same time.
