One of the LTC's on our staff is into Colt's in a big way.  He brought the book in for me to see.  The book appears to be pretty good with a wealth of information and contains copies of some of the Colt shipping records.  It would be a great addition to the serious Colt afficeinado.   But, James like you say the price is pretty steep.  I asked Santa for one next year.

Fellas, books like these aren't big sellers as they have a very limited field of buyers. You think they are expensive now, wait until they go out of print.  Shocked

If anyone doubts that statement - price a copy of McDowell's book on Cartridge Conversions.

It sold new - from Krause Publications - for $39 - about 10 years ago, and it was a single print run, and then the  author died...

Today, copies will bring serious money.

Don Wilkerson's written good stuff for the Colt collector, but it's not like the common 'coffee-table' books one sees by Adler, by a long shot.

Vaya,

I agree with St George and FCK.  Reference books can be expensive but very wel worth every penny.  But I found a copy of McDowells book about a month ago for $39.95 brand new.  I guess that was my lucky day.  I have every intention of aquiring the book, that started this thread.

The McDowell book came out in the Spring of '97. That's when I bought mine. Last one I saw for sale was something like $400!!  Shocked

Les Quick, the author of the new & best book on the Henry, died as well. The book is $100.00 and guaranteed to go up ASAP.

Speaking of books that have gone up in price.  How about this.  I think I paid about $35.00 new when it came out.

For those of you who still want the McDowell book.  They are reasonably priced on Amazon.
