Finally finished one!
« on: December 27, 2010, 06:43:06 PM »
It has been a pretty busy time here at the ol' homestead but I finally had some time to finish up a bowie I have been working on since September....well, almost finished.  I still need to make the sheath.  I forged the blade from a buggy spring that I had in my scrap pile.  I heat treated it like you would 5160 and it did just fine.  The blade is just under 7" long and 3/16" thick.  I used brass bar stock for the guard and a sambar stag crown for the handle.  Some of y'all may have seen the knife posted on other forums so forgive the redundancy

Nice looking blade, would look good hanging from belt on a hunting trip.

Very Nice Work Pard ! I used to love doing that but too many failures due to fractures in the Old Steel before I started now only use virgin steel from the knifesupply or admiral steel ,, nothin like finishing one out an seeing a Old crack apear in the blade due to earlier stressed material , Hope you continue the work ,t

Tell me about it Big T!  I have had several really nice blades end up in the scrap heap because of hidden faults in old scrap steel.  I am beginning to use new blade stock for forging but still like to hammer on an old rusty file or leaf spring.  It is very satisfying creating something from scrap.  Thanks to all you Gentlemen for your gracious comments.  You are all class acts in my book! ;D

No matter how many times that knife is posted or how many forums it appeared on it would never be redundant.
