USFA Wish List

Greetings All,
What, if anything, would you like to see in the way of new products, or improvements, from USFA?  Top on my list would be;

New Products
1: A stainless steel SAA
2: An accurate reproduction of the Remington Derringer (like those made by the old Great Western Arms Co. back in the 50's with a hinge size similar to the original Remingtons).

Improvements
1: Coil spring set-up for the hand.
2:  Wire spring to replace the flat bolt/trigger spring.

I would disagree about the wire spring for the trigger/bolt spring, at least the current designs, as they simply take a basically straight length of wire of exceedingly small cross sectional area and then flex it..it soon takes a set, and trigger and bolt become become mushy and sluggish, and crisp bolt return is the key to setting and keeping timing...the standard flat spring set-up can be extremely long-lived if done properly, just like the mainspring in a S&W/Colt or the loading gate interlock spring in a NMBH/Vaquero....as for a new product, I posted it already in another thread, an affordable Rodeo verion of the Sheriff's Model in .44Spl or .45Colt....

I have been using the Heinie wire trigger/bolt spring in several of my SAA's and have yet to experience the problems you mention.  The Heinie springs seem to be a bit more substantial than some of the others that I have seen.  None the less, I will heed your words and keep a close eye on them!

One thing for sure is that it does what feels like an automatic trigger job on a SAA...I just don't trust a piece of wire that thin to get bent again and again without losing some ooomph...I am pretty sure you could tell a difference between a brand new one and a an older one...this is not to say the Heinie doesn't work....I've used it, and think it a good idea...if I were going out in the boonies with a SAA, I would might like the piece of mind the wire spring would give....but I do think the standard flat spring can be made reliable and light if the original spring is good to begin with...I am letting my stock USFA spring stay bone stock for right now, as I want to see just how long it lasts before failure...it's already lasted through over 1000rds and innumerable cyclings, and so has lasted over 4x's longer than Uberti and AWA springs of my experience.....FYI, I had a very used 2nd Gen Colt that had been worked over probably in the late 50's-early 60's, and the bolt/trigger spring finally broke after I had been shooting it and playing with it for over 3yrs.....

I've been doing action jobs on Colts/Clones since 1978 using wire springs of my manufacture. I've never had one go bad, mushy, or come back to me for any reason.

I would like to see a high polish blue version of the Rodeo that is only slightly more expensive, but will not cost as much as a case colored version.
