Just found
« on: October 21, 2010, 03:11:37 AM »
I was doing a garden clearance job yesterday and made a neat find hidden in some black berry bushes.

Under the briars and brambles was a 2 foot diameter, 4 inch thick grinding wheel mounted to a cast iron frame complete with drive pulleys and a belt drive. One of the real old fashioned ones that spin slowly and are great for final shaping of blades. The belt drive would be ideal for putting a slack polishing belt on.

Now I just have to find a local knife maker who wants to trade it for a  custom knife.

The local park museum was clearing the ground one day and under some tall grass they found a wheel, but it was an old flour grinder wheel from a flour mill in the 1800s here, they almost tossed it,it had been shipped from France over to here, they were very exspensive~

Last week the dogs dug up an old butcher knife of some type. It's about 16" long with a curved blade. The wood is old and dry but mostly there. It has a name stamped along the blade but it can't be read.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.
