Been busy with our annual 3 day match (14th Annual Roop County Days), and have barely been keeping up just reading.
We just completed a 5 day stretch of record high temps here.  Low to mid 90s all week.  Friday also set an all time record high for the month of October at 93.
Supposed to start to cool off into 80s and high 70s today, with the chance of thunderstorms late Monday.

We had a Hackberry tree split real bad in that last storm where we lost the big Osage Orange.  The split you see in the first picture goes almost to the ground, they worked on it at dusk so I had to use the flash, the guys are my brother and nephew:

We decided to try to save it because it shades the gas barrel and that is where we often work on the tractors.

First the cable from the 4 wheeler:

That helped with the crack, but we then rigged a 4 ton comealong with chains and tightened it up:

Another chain wrapped around as tight as possible and bolted on the ends were added:

This was nailed in place:

When all the pressure was relased the gap was tight and the chain held, we hope this will keep it from splitting more and coming down.

Don't know if they were tree surgeons or shadetree mechanics. Roll Eyes

Got Don Edwards on right now, was in the WD earlier, Zappa was better than that kenny Chessney song Boys of Fall, they play it almost every hour with extras by different local school coaches.

I told them they needed a gallon of gorilla glue in the crack before they tightened it up.  As for duct tabe I don't think it has the tensile strength.  If it gets real windy I ain't going near the thing incase one of those links pops.
