O/T Checkin them Coin Slots
« on: August 23, 2010, 01:45:12 AM »
Read an article sayin that ya should check the coin return slots on those "CoinStar" coin machines in the stores. The reasoning is that there are certain coins the machines reject as "phoney" mostly because of weight. Or some of the various dollar coins too.

So, thought I would put it to a test today, as I was leaving my local market. Stuck my hand in the slot, and sure enough there was a coin. Only one coin, but it was there. And sure enough, is was a Wheat Penny. Was a 1942 S in AU. Coin lists in one of my guides for about $1. It ain't much but it proves the story, so I have to start checkin them slots. I will keep ya posted on my results.

I've long made a habit of checking every handful of change I get.  Almost to the point of becoming a quirk.  Amazing how many coins from all over the world pop up in your currency.  I'm not a collector per se, just like neat things.

My neatest finds to date off the top of my head - 1 1993 Hong Kong dollar coin.  1 near mint 5 pence dated 1942.  1 very good cond. Farthing dated 1893.  I've got a handful of American Wheat Sheaf pennies... might just start making gas checks out of them.

My wierdest find was an excellent condition U.S. Silver Dollar dated 1878.  It was thrown in on an internet gun deal.  An American Arms spur trigger revolver that wasn't really as advertised.  I paid $75 for the gun, and the coin was valued at a dealer around $190.

Curley:  I can help you out here.  Rumor has it that an old-timer used to bury all his gold coin and yankee paper in mason jars out there in my pasture.  They were all buried in a straight line, down where the old fence used to be.  I'm rebuilding the cross-fencing now, and can show you exactly where to dig.  You want to dig about a 8-10" hole, about every 100' or so until you find them.

Come on over with a post auger and some post hole diggers.  Yessir, I'll set you right up!   ;D

Del
My son has an old dry well he would be happy to sell to ya...he just found out he has to drop a new well. ($10K min.) It appears the water level there has dropped down to about 260ft. He is not thrilled.
I will let him know that he can sell of some of the dri one...hehehe

And yes you can find me chick-checkin at the mall. I am a certifiable old goat now...

Stop being so primitive.  If you want to go more modern (and save a lot of time and effort) I have a thousand prefabricated post holes I'll sell cheap, and I'll throw in two dozen packs of dehydrated water. They work really well.  Just add a cup of fresh brewed hot coffee to each one.

I buy my dehydrated water in the 1 gallon can rather than the packs, it's cheaper in bulk:

Well have any of you guys come across Frozen Water?  It's supposed to be some sort of ice substitute, and I was wondering how well it works.

It comes from not having to carry that extra leg on our chromosome pair. XY as compared to you XX.  Lightens us up so we can think better and faster.
