Cemetary,

I have a pair of Will Ghormley's double cross draw rigs for my two Shofields (I know I know, I'm getting to it). After I bought the holsters, I learned that our club had banned all double crossdraws.

I also portray an 1880s Pinkerton during reenacting sometimes.

I go to thinking that, since the ROAs and Schofields both carry alot of metal in front of the cylinder, That the holsters might be interchangeable .... and so now I have made a new set of holsters (double strong side this time), and have retired the double crossdraw rig to the ROAs and reenacting ....

Pictures below ... the one pic is in Old Sacramento as a Pinkerton (there was a lot of them in Sacramento during the post-Civil-War period in order to escort gold shipments).

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

I've made several for the ROA and it takes a pattern similar to the Remington. I wound up just making a pattern just for the ROA by using my Remington 1858 as a start.

Some factory holsters for the Remington may work but your best bet is one for the Ruger to know for sure.

Hi Y'all,

To use a visual, these were original Schofield Holsters ... I got tired of the extremely high rise of wearing them in a SASS friendly double strong side instead of the double crossdaraw they were designed to be ....

So I made some double strong side holsters (For the Schofields) and relegated these to the ROA with a double cross draw rig for reenacting .... with a black powder belt (and Bowie) designed by Chuck Burrows ...

I've used these for several years with my ROAs.

It's funny looking at some of those sights how what they call old west is not even close to what really existed in the old west. Either they really don't know or care or they count on their customers to not have a clue. My guess is a little of all three.

Most cowboy shooters aren't re-enactors.  They didn't have gun carts in the old west either.  Cowboy shooting is a fantasy sport so its whatever floats your boat.  Go take a look at the "B-Western" shooters.  Their fantasy is Gene Autry and Roy Rogers.

You missed my point, on Kirkpatrics website they list as old west, why don't they call it what it is? Your right most Cowboy action shooters like in Sass don't but there are ones that do and that is misleading to many people that do want "Old West".

Cliff,

It would be neat if SASS had an 'Old West' category for shooting, but I am afraid that my newly made holsters would be considered illegal, 'cause there were no lowered loop holsters in the 'Old West'...

I made my own slim jims for my 7.5" ROAs. I also had my pard Roger at Gun Leather and more make me a rig for my 5.5" ones. His work is very good and his prices are very reasonable. http://www.gunleatherandmore.com/aholsters.html
