I picked up a new surplus campaign hat for $15. Great quality, it'll be good for WB matches by de-militarizing it.
Ya got a picture of it?

Here you go. The color isn't too good since this was taken at night with a flash.

Mornin' pards. Thanks for the cup, Slim.

It's 54° with fog, almost drizzle. Going to be cooler than yesterday. You can have it.

I'm making a second pot O Cawfee this morning. It should be ready shortly. It will be over 100 degrees today and tomorrow. The dog days of summer are alive and well in Texas.

Mornin'. Thanks for the coffee, pards.

You're lucky, Tex. It's currently 53° with fog & drizzle, here.

Thanks, the hat really was a great deal. A little work and it'll look right.

I got the hat steamed and made a cord for the wind strap to hang on much like the one Lee Marvin had on his in "The Professinals". My WB hat is finished. You can't see it in the photo, but the brim is steamed up slightly in the front. The color, to be totally historically correct should be brown, but it's the same as Lee Marvin's in color. Besides, $15 is hard to beat. Grin

There's plenty of wheat grown around here but not sure what kind it is.

If you haven't changed Slim ain't you using that Wheat Montana stuff,?  I buy the pre-ground at Wal-Mart, it's a hard red spring wheat, very high gluten.

BTW had some folks in here last night, attending The Germans From Russia (Volga Duetch) nation convention which is always in Lincoln.  Had a stern talk with them about their folks havin' brought the Russian Thistle (Tumbleweed) here when they brought in the Turkey Red winter wheat that is grown here and in Kansas. That's the stuff but I'd like to buy it in 50 lb bags. A bit more economical.  Wink

From one of the Lab boards:

Subj: Subliminal Marketing in 2010

A new supermarket opened in N Texas recently.

Like most supermarkets, it has an automatic water mister to keep the
produce fresh. However, just before it goes on, you hear the distant sound of thunder and the smell of fresh rain.

Also ... when you pass the milk cases, you hear cows mooing and you experience the scent of fresh cut hay.

In the meat department there is the aroma of charcoal grilled steaks and
hot dogs on the grill.

In the liquor department, the fresh, clean, crisp smell of tapped Miller
Lite.

When you approach the egg case, you hear hens cluck and cackle and the air is filled with the pleasing aroma of bacon and eggs frying.

The bread department features the tantalizing smell of fresh baked bread & cookies.

Needless to say, we don't buy toilet paper there anymore.

LOL, Del. Grin

Slim, my mother used to grind red wheat for bread and to make breakfast cereal. It was really outstanding. The only thing I like better is spelt wheat.
