Triple 7 FFG vs FFFG
« on: May 13, 2010, 01:42:58 PM »
I noticed when I picked up my last can of Triple 7 and it is FFFG not FFG.  I didn’t notice this when I bought it.  Will I see much of a difference?

What are you loading it in? If in a smaller cartridge like 32-20, 38/357 I wouldn't worry about it but in a bigger  capacity cartridge like the 38-40, 44-40 or 45LC there would a a noticeable difference. I load the FFFg size 777 in the 357 because i didn't read the instructions before I had already tested and found a good load in the 357mag. After finding they do not recommend the FFFg in cartridges I figured the 357 is a very high pressure round and I wasn't gonna worry about a moderate increase in pressure. I would think it might be significant in the larger capacity cases of the BP calibers. I still only load the FFFg as it meters well and works fine for me.

I load it in 38 special.  I think I am going to load up a few to test out after my next shoot.

Also from what I read 3F 10 about 10% stronger than 2F.  Is that about right?

All charges of Triple Seven or Pyrodex should be measured by VOLUME not weight. A simple, adjustable blackpowder measure is the correct tool for this job. All loads listed in this brochure are measured by VOLUME.

Triple Seven is a high energy product designed to provide the muzzleloading hunter with higher velocities when used in the same VOLUME as blackpowder. To duplicate a blackpowder load velocity using Triple Seven, you must decrease the powder charge by 15%. *See WARNING below.

38 Spl Black Powder charge ... 16gr FFFg
So download the Triple Seven according to Hodgdon's product description
