shooting around
« on: May 11, 2010, 05:33:56 PM »
Had fun shooting with the Blue River Regulators near Valpraiso NE on Sunday.
They are an NCOWS Posse who shoot on the 2nd sunday of the month.
This was the first time in almost a year and a half that I was able to shoot a match that I didn't have to help set up and run.  The weather was cool but comfortable.  The folks were friendly the stages were fun the range is in a nice little valley with trees and a picnic shelter.  I look forward to shoting wiht them again if my work schedule allows it.

I changed the thread title.

I had another safe and fun match today with the Platte Vally Gunslingers.
Weather was warm but not too so.  I was reminded again why I like this game more than any other.
The people are great wherever you go.  I hadn't shot at this club in almost 2 years and only a couple of times at that.  I was welcomed and felt at home, or at least at a friends home, right away.  They are an elstablished SASS club.  The range has divided shooting bays, smooth and simple stages props and steel all well built.  Could use a few trees though.

I am going to try to get to as many different clubs as I can this year and will keep reporting on the good times here

We are very glad you came, Bow View! Even better that you enjoyed yourself!

As far as the trees, I think they were in the grand scheme in the beginning of it all, but got lost in the shuffle and budget cuts. (being a City owned range and all) I keep thinking of donating a few trees and even planting them, but I fear the regular maintenance/watering would not happen and they would die. I would like to see some trees on the ends of the berms, but I think the eventual progression will be some false store fronts over the berm ends.

Hope to see you back!

I had great plans to shoot with the Platte Valley gunslingers last Sunday but I ended up sick and on the couch the whole weekend.

Had a chance to shoot with the Nebraska territorial Rangers today.  the weather was just shy of too hot and muggy.  NTR has a great range and great people.  I whot working Cowboy and other than my first shot of the day had a clean match, but the first one was a miss.  took the pressure off for the rest of the day.

Bow View,
We missed you. Hope you are feeling well enough for next month. It will be July 17 at our range, and July 18 at Flatwater's range. We will be having a small Wild Bunch match and a Josey Wales match Saturday evening for those interested. I believe a chili cookoff and a cowboy swap meet are also slated.
Hope you can make it!

I believe I have to work that whole weekend.  I think I do have the 11th off and have to decide where I might go shoot then.  Also the GAF dept of Missouri muster is coming up.

Went to shoot at Outlaw Run near Red Oak Iowa on the 11th and got rained out.   :'( >:(
I was looking forward to shooting with them but it will have to be another time.
We had aour 3rd Friday practice night the 16th.   Felt good to hear the bang clang again.
Shot my pair of Pietta Remington cap-n-ball and some pyrodex shotshells.  kept some of the skeeters away.  I must say I have loads of respect for you that shoot cap-n-ball revolvers all the time.  I don't do too bad with the loading but the capping is the trick.  I have to find a capper that works with these then learn how to use it.
Counting the hour till I leave for the Dept. GAF muster out near Ord/Seargent.  Can't wait to step back in time for three days and forget about work etc..
Hope to see some of ya at the next shoot.

I made it through this years Dept GAF muster without being called away to a family emergency.  I was able to attend most of the muster and sort of step away from some of the stresses of the daily grind.  I did some fair shooting.  Won my class (only 1 in it), but made a fair showing I thought.  Got to shoot some guns that I haven't used in a while.  Got to see old Glory flying in the breeze on to of a tall hill at the edge of the Nebraska sandhills.  I'm already marking my calender for next year.  This is one match that I just don't see any way of missing.  The highlight of my shooting summer so far.

Had our monthly 3rd firday practice night.  It was hot but good.  I got in some shooting with my favorite guns.  I didn't really care much about time it just felt good to SHOOT!.
I finally got the time off from work to go to the State SASS match.  I'm  looking forward to it.  It will be the first reallly big match for me.  I just want to get through it without screwing up.
