I have a Kimber Custom II for Modern and an Auto Ordnance for Traditional.
So far I've only shot in Modern.

Shot an auto ordnance 1911 on the weekend.
I found it to be pretty good, shot well, hit what I pointed it at every time (sometimes we even managed to hit what we wanted to hit). Didn't get to give it a good run but put around seventy rounds through it in a short space of time.
Even rapid fire I managed to only miss around one shot out of every 2-3 mags. Later on we tried it out at around fifty yards on the rifle targets and still managed to hold it on target easily.

I finally got to take the High Standard out for a test run today. New out of the box, Sellier & Bellot 230 gr. FMJ. One box, slow and steady to as fast as I could shot and aim with absolutly no problems. Felt really good. Very nice pistol to shoot.

I have two and both are too modern for any kind of wild bunch competition. One is strictly a bed side gun the other is my daily carry. The bed side is a Springfield Arms Loaded model and my daily carry gun is a RIA/Armscor 1911 CS (compact). If money for a gun is hard to justify I highly recommend the Armscor/RIA guns as their CS is second to none. Springfield also makes a version of the GI that should fit the bill nicely as well but a few dollars more.

I have a Colombian Ballester - Colt Copy in 45 acp made on colt machinery - Just no grip safety!

She is an ole war horse but cost me less than 200.00 when i got her.

The Ballester is Argentine, isn't it?  Sure wish I could find a good, no-frills 1911 for under $200.

I've not seen a no-frills 1911 for less than Centerfire Systems sells the RIA/Armscors which are about $350. http://www.centerfiresystems.com/1911.aspx These are about the least expensive gun on the market that I would recommend.

That does seem a good price for a brand-new 1911.

Enjoying old stuff as much as I do, though, I poked around about the Ballester and discovered the Sistema Colt Modelo 1927, Caliber .45 ACP in Grade 1 condition for  $300.00 plus $12.00 shipping through cruffler.com.  Anyone have experience with them?

Just to Add My Opinion,

My previous favorite was my Colt Series 80, it shot well, accurate and liked the load I made up for it, a mild Unique load with a 200 Gr. RNFP.  The POA vs. POI was the same for facory 230 ball ammo however, always was about 2" high at 15 yards, windage was on center.  Cycled very well, no jams after thousands through it, just kept it clean.

Now a few months back, finally got the SA Mil-Spec I had been looking for a few years now.  Found a really good deal and took it.  First out to the range, just cleaned it well and then started cycling the factory loads and my own loads, shot exceptionally well.  Now, as for the SA, it shoots to the sights at the 15 yards, elevation is on and windage is centered too   Checked the rear sight and it is about .020 lower than the rear sight of the Colt.

My thinking is, if the Colt bothers me, I'll just drop in a SA rear sight, both are dove-tailed, I'll just check and make sure the widths match.  Worse comes, I'll just wittle down the current Colt rear sight.  But hey, I can't complain, the Colt really shoots pretty good and I know where it will hit at the 15 yard mark, I best leave well enough alone.

I have an ATI and a Para Wild Bunch 1911, they were both very tight and accurate out of the box. The only adjustment made was to use CMC mags and not a hiccup one
