Here are my two, one with a 4 5/8" and one with a 3 3/4" barrel. I have replaced the New Vaquero hammers with ones from the old Vaqueros. I really like them!

Ranch 13:
It helps to have an FFL & do a lot of trading.
We load all .44 Specials in our family outfit's six-shooters & rifles.
We really don't wanna change calibers. We have 100% interchangeability now.
Our only ammo differences are whether the load is smokelss or BP sub.
Rifles:
3 Marlin M-1894 in .44 M
3 Browning M-1892 in .44 M
3 Brazillian M-1892 in .44 M
1 Winchester M-1892 in .44 S
Revolvers:
3 Ruger SBks in .44 M
6 Ruger Vaqueros in .44 M
6 Ruger Bisley Vaqs in .44 M
2 Ruger Birdhead Vaqs in .44 M
2 Ruger Bisleys in .44 M
>>>But then, we have a
lot of folks
in our outfit at the Double Arrow Ranch.<<<
That's Calamity JoAnne, Winchester Wade, SASSy Shawna, Amy Oakley, Russ T. Spittoon, Commissioner Gordon, Tin Star Tim [and me]
Much obliged for the ideas, Pard.

Just picked up a blued Sheriff's model at Cabelas last week. Listed at $499, plus Vaqueros were $50 off, and I had a $20 off coupon over $150. So it was $429 all together.
It was a toss-up between the Sheriff's and a 4-5/8" they also had in stock. I think the 4-5/8" has better proportions, but I already have a stainless 4-5/8" in .357, so I wanted the second gun to be as different as possible.

IMHO Ruger mis-marked (to avoid lawsuits I suppose) those ".44 Specials"... They
should
be marked ".44 Long Russian", and the OMV's that are "mis-marked" as ".44 Mangle-Em" oughta be marked ".44 Extra-Long Russiian"!
Now, I can't take responsibility for the actual facts, but when Ruger first brought out the New Vaquero in .45LC, an engineer I met at the Shot Show told me they were proofed to the same level as the OMV's! To manage this, they reduced the index circle diameter (the diameter of an imaginary circle passing through the center of the chambers. This gave the cylinder walls more thickness. What you gave up was the ability to chamber .44-40's as the rims would overlap!
The .44 Russian family has a smaller diameter case, so it will work in the smaller cylinder, and I would suspect gives a bit more wall thickness and pressure tolerance, though I WOULD NOT TRY TO MAKE A .44 Mangle-em (oops) .44 Extra-Long Russian with full-power loads. Besides, you don't need such hot loads for CAS. While I'd admire to have a pair of these .44 Long Russians, my rifle works better in .44 Mangle-Em. So, I reckon I'll stick with my OMV convertibles.
