Hat question
« on: April 29, 2004, 12:22:21 PM »
What do the X's mean? I know it is not the size. Is it how tight the fibers are "woven"?

Until someone smarter then me comes by (and that is everyone here) I'll give ya my .02 worth.

It is a indicator of quality and value. The more Xs originally meant the more pure fur was in the hat. But I also think you now see felt hats with an X rating as well.

I'll also be interested in what one of our resident experts has to say. :)

An "X" is generally taken to mean a kiss, and a "O" is a hug....the more "X"'s a hat has, the more dollars you kiss good bye.
Well..........Bye!

For Rand Hats and others the x's indicate how much beaver is in the hat by percentage. The amount of beaver fur is the original meaning for X's although companies that do not offer hats with beaver fur also use X systems.  Beaver fur is mighty expansive but a Rand hat made fgrom only beaver is available as a 10X.

In my opinion the Rand hat is one of the finest if not THE...
