Tricky,

If you can put a couple rivets in and finish off the handle this'll help you out.

www.janzsupply.com

A search for "green river" at this site will show all the options.  Different sizes and blade only or kit options.  If I were you I'd get the blade and rivets seperately and handle it in maple or walnut.  Dymondwood is laminated wood, pretty durned ugly, and definately NOT   PC   ;D

Here's a couple links to get ya started
10" blade-

7" blade-

Hope this helps ya out Pard,   Josh  ;D

Ok I'll bite, but how easy is it to shape the wood and attach it to the blade besides the rivets?

Look at Smoky Mountain Knife Works - or Dixie Gun Works - or even at the oldest hardware store in your town.

This style's still popular and they're very reasonably priced.

Tricky,

It really wouldn't be too hard to do.   Cutlery rivets are push together deals so they just get tapped together with a hammer.  Of course you'll need to drill holes in the wood for the rivets and a saw to cut the bulk of excess wood off.

I'd epoxy the wood in addition to the rivets.

A sharp rasp will make short work of rough shaping the wood and one variety pack of sandpaper should be sufficient to fininsh with.

If you bought a pair of knife scales or other wood that's already about 1/4" thick there wont be a whole lot of shaping to do.

I agree with Josh, fairly easy to do even for those with average skills and limited tools. Also many full fledged knifemakers started out this way, until they they felt comfortable moving on to the "Real Deal" .   Dave :)
